I have feeling Zurdo learned the fundamentals from a mediocre trainer because he fights a Mexican style which is all wrong for his height and reach in this division or his previous one.
I too thought because of his weight gain he could trouble the smallish Bivol but he was just a sparring partner in the ring yesterday.

He does not fight a Mexican style.... stop it

Did anyone think that the advice given in Ramirez’s corner was ****? The trainer sounded like he was speaking to Zurdo’s ego, not his self, telling him that Bivol can’t hang in the phone boot with him and specifically not telling him that he was losing the fight. (I always wonder if certain trainers make their living by stroking egos, which can’t be hard since it’s so easy for boxers to be egomaniacal.) I suppose the comical part was that all the while, Zurdo’s eyes betrayed an increasing look of capitulation until he just looked…absent.

Zurdo thought he won! Maybe 2 rounds. Bit if a dull fight, but that was down to Zurdo being boring, unambitious, and quite poor. I think he'd be a decent warm-up fight for Calum Smith before Smith moves onto bette opponent s at 175. Nash out

Terrible scores, terrible announcing! Watch the fight on mute and you get a whole different perspective. For those who see for themselves. Although Zurdo didn't do what he expected he did enough. A flurry here and there shouldn't win a round. Had to figure it would in this case. However, if honestly judging the fight you could give rounds 2,3,4,9,10 and 11 all to Zurdo. Up 1 going in to the last and that could a gone either way.

Looks like the Mexican didn't get his revenge for Canelo. Bivol is a fighter who is happy to win a decision--doesn't look for KO. Not too exciting but he wins fights. He represents boxing well since he isn't a bigmouth braggart like many. Can Bivol beat Beterbiev? That fight should be made.
