    Miguel Cotto's footwork...

Have you guys noticed how Cotto's stance often seems to switch as he moves away from exchanges and goes to circle his opponent...for example he'll throw a few punches move out and end up in southpaw stance before quickly switching back to ortohodox.

Just wondering why that is? whether it is to do with him being a natural left hander or his footwork just being a bit mixed up and him becoming accustomed to doing this naturally and will Pac look to exploit this and put him off balance?

Just to say I'm not hating on Cotto at all (I like him a lot) just making that clear
because I know how defensive people can be on this site

He's capable of fighting at both orthodox and southpaw stance when he wants to,being left handed but training in orthodox has alot to do with it. Sometimes when a person fights at the stance they wern't intended to they can switch up and fight just as well in the other stance.. kinda like a switch hitter in baseball.

Yeah but I'm talking about when he's just walking sideways he seems to end up in the wrong stance and switches back to orthodox to get his feet set to start throwing again...kinda hard to explain I will try post videos or something later I just wondered if others noticed

Sir, that only means 1 thing, that you really knows how to read a boxer. Cotto knows what he's doing on the ring and that change of stance while moving is part of who he is, that while boxing he thinks confuses the other fighter. When fighting a smart fighter like Mosley, Judah and Quintana, he feels more secure. I'm not saying that this is working or not but is how he feels better on the ring. It's not like I know all this 'cause I'm and expert or anything but this was discussed on a news paper in Puerto Rico a while ago with him.

Cool thanks for the reply...I figured it could be something like that and that the movement was automatic to him now because he doesn't look lost while he does it but I was just thinking that maybe he could get caught by someone who looks for it and lunges with a straight punch before he can get set, but things like that are often easier said than done. Hopefully if that were to happen a few times he'd adjust to it though he's a smarter fighter than he's given credit for.

No problem, he's is a smart guy, but like you said someone who looks 4 that move and fast enough to get there, is going to make him pay, Floyd maybe....well that just not going to happen.

It helps him give different angles for punches. When southpaws keep moving right he does it because southpaws like to jab right then move right to turn their opponent.

That's why he's the best at cutting off the ring, and it's why he could potentially give Pac hell if Pac chooses to pot shot. The only guy who's movement Cotto won't be able to catch up to is Floyd because Floyd keeps people guessing too much with his counter punches.

I think Floyd and Cotto will fight, especially if Cotto beats Pac. TBH I think they should fight regardless of whether Cotto wins. I think Floyd vs Pac, Cotto and Mosley are the fights that need to happen for Floyd.

I'd like to see Cotto-Mosley II also and Cotto-Clottey II
