Actually Pac wanted it at 142. Roach, Arum, and Cotto said 147 was okay. Pac almost walked away from this fight because Cotto refused to put his title on the line if Pac didn't come up to 147. Cotto had a change of heart (more money offered by Arum) and decided to do 145 with title.
I don't know all about the other stuff but I know you got the 145 wrong here. After Hatton Pac was asked to see who he wanted to fight next. Cotto and Mosley name popped up. Cotto then responded that a fight with Pac is very possible but the lowest he can go is 145 and nothing less. Cotto said that at 145 it would be no preblem at all.
Cotto would never do that ; he's a consumate professional.
I'd be happy if Cotto did that and call him a G. He is actually putting his belt on the line. What Mayweather did was wrong, If Cotto did it ; I'd condone it.
Btw, Cotto can do that if he wants to. It's a WW fight and it's for his WW title. Anything from 147 and below is acceptable. Floyd was just smart enough to go over the contract, read it carefully, make a few changes on it, and capitalize on the advantages for his tune up.
Exactly, well said. I wouldn't give Cotto ****. The real ***** move is the 145 pound catch weight.

Correct. Until Pac expressed he wanted the WBO welterweight title. Then Cotto said if Pac wanted to fight for the title He would need to meet Cotto at 147. Pac almost walked away from this fight till Arum convinced (gave money) Cotto to defend his title at 145. Originally it was just assumed that the fight would be at 145 because everyone (Cotto, Cotto's team, Roach, and Arum) was ok with that weight. However Pacquiao countered and said he wanted Cotto to Come to 142 and that's when Mosely started telling Pac he was willing to come down to 140. Pacquiao eventually decided (I'm sure Roach mad him feel okay about it) to go ahead and fight at 145. If Manny didn't care what weight this fight was at, it would be taking place at 147.
Floyd doing it was a ***** move. No belt up for grabs and nothing for him to really be pissed about w/ having to drop to 144 bc apparently everyone figured when the fight was signed he could make that weight without any issues and it seems like he did not really make much effort at all to drop down to 144. That is kind of a ***** move, in my opinion. Cotto, on the other hand, is expected to have some issues dropping to 145 and some question whether it will have an effect come fight night.
Cotto doing it would be pretty gangsta', IMO. Partially for the fact that he has every right to be pissed that he is basically being forced by the WBO to put the belt on the line at a catchweight and now everyone just saw Money totally blow off a catchweight in a bout where there wasn't even a belt on the line at all. The reason I think Cotto doing it would be pretty badass is that, unlike Floyd just pulling a ***** move...Cotto could present his case as the man standing up for boxing against this ridiculus catchweight BS and considering he would be taking a huge risk in doing so makes it even more G.
Of course, the ramifications IF he did that and Manny ended up backing out of the fight would be huge. And of course Cotto would stand to lose a couple million if they went through w/ the fight after Cotto weighed in over the 145 limit. Not sure whether the WBO would be able to strip him, though, if he won. What are they gonna do, strip a guy for weighing in over 145 but under the normal 147 limit who eventually wins the fight...and then have a match for the vacated title at the normal weight 147 that the guy who just won weighed in at or under? And if he weighed in over 145 and wins then what becomes of the Diamond Belt (aside from Cotto just throwing it in the trash)?
Cotto should just take and stand and come in @ 147...say **** the couple million, **** the belts. If Pac backs out he backs out...if they go through w/ it and Cotto wins in the long term it'll be better for him b/c the public will want to see him vs Money regardless of whether he weighed in over the 145 limit or not. And if Money goes w/ Mosley instead Cotto can wait for the winner or attempt to avenge the Margs defeat, which would be pretty risky to do w/ a potential Money/Mosley fight on the horizon.

First of all, if Cotto goes over the weight--Pacquiao has an option not to fight like Marquez against Mayweather, but the difference is, that was Marquez biggest fight, so oviously he wasn't going to back out.

That's not true. If you actually read interviews--Pacquiao actually didn't care --he was only following he's teams advice by asking to go down to 142/143. Even Shane Mosley admitted that Pacquiao was willing to figh him at 147, but due to being a lesser draw--he was pushed back.
