Comments Thread For: Lomachenko Gives His Thoughts On Shakur Stevenson: "He's A Good Boxer, Smart Boxer"

The undisputed title dreams of Vasiliy Lomachenko appeared to be his for the taking. Yet, with the former two-time Olympic gold medalist lending a helping hand to his native country of Ukraine amid the Russian invasion, he opted to place his career on hold. Now, after spending approximately a year near the heart of the war, Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) is set to return to the ring on October 29th, against Jamaine Ortiz.

Loma respects Stevenson, and rightfully so. Stevenson is a very good talent, with a high boxing IQ. He'll often read a fight before it takes place (involving other opponents that are facing each other, and not himself)....and is usually spot on. I think Stevenson will give any of his fellow elite opponents a run for their money - including Loma. Loma respects and understands this.

Loma is weary of that smoke. He should fight Haney and stay away the Stevenson

That’s 2 of the best ring IQ boxers in the game right now. Stevenson vs Lomachenko.

Would be a pleasure to watch them work.

I can only hope that Haney decides to retire early so that we never have to watch another one of his hugfests. Without question the most boring fighter in recent memory. His most exciting fights have been more boring that Rigondeaux's most boring fights.

Jab jab jab hug, jab hug, jab jab hug.

For a hugger, he lit Kambosos face up in fight # two. Kambosos was taking such a beating, I thought his corner was going to throw in the towel at one point.

Haney did a lot of damage in between hugs

I really appreciate the way many foreign fighters can discuss a potential rival without all the trash talking and endless cussing. It shows class.

This is the most astute observation I’ve read on this platform. Ever. it is true.

It’s a cultural thing. The trash talking and disrespect we see in not just boxing but in almost every sport in the US is just how the culture is here.
It is also a reflection of certain nuances - the gun culture, the almost collective rejection of universal health care and even the “small” street violence that emanates from the “what are you looking at” stare that almost always leads to violence including the good old road rage.

This is not a political statement, it’s just a cultural normalcy that does exist here. I’m making that distinction because the rebuttals that will follow will be entertaining.

If Loma beats both Haney and Shakur and becomes Undisputed, that would be some elite level GOAT ish.
