Comments Thread For: Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields Lead Field in First Women's Competition Index

Hyperbole is easy to fall into when writing about boxing. It's not hyperbole to say 2022 is the best year in the history of women's boxing. Big fights? Check. Crowds? Check. Unifications all over the scale? Check?

A good piece Cliff, well put together. True unbiased boxing fans were never in any doubt as to the best female boxer on the planet but your breakdown is excellent. Katie Taylor clearly the best. The rest I might have changed a bit but all and all I agree. McCaskill doesn't belong with the top female fighters. She just doesn't improve the more she fights.

It’s time to start taking a deeper look at the performance of the best women in the game.
      OH!

It can resemble a pound-for-pound list but it’s meant to be something different.
      How?

Sanctioning body rankings, which almost always fail to rank each other’s titlists, can be a highly unreliable gauge of quality wins.
      Word!

The Take: Taylor finishes on top as the leader in two of three scoring categories. Her six unique wins against ranked opposition is two more than her closest peers in Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano.

Bruh? Robberies should count, the student of the game knows Katie robbed Delfine Persoon twice, and should have another L after Amanda Serrano beat her up. Clarresa Shields is the G.W.O.A.T , all clear wins, undisputed.

By the way, Queensland, Australia's Skye Nicolson will be in the women's P4P list, very soon. I believe that the English-Bum Karriss Artingstall robbed Skye Nicolson of the gold in 2020, like Taylor robbed Amanda Serrano.

Is Skye Nicolson Australia's future unified P4P champion?

She has real star potential too. As to Taylor and some close decisions, there isn't an attempt here to relitigate outcomes. Margin of victory in big fights is big for Shields in general though if we're arguing who we think might be the better fighter.

Serrano is getting found out now as the brother outlaw can't work his magic anymore. Katie Taylor management won't allow her fight without all opponents signing up to full camp testing. That's serrano fxxked.

The Skyes the limit. This list is like resume for resume, but I can't help but notice that journeymen or gatekeepers are not at the top of these ''Competition Index'' if defeats are not held against the boxers -- oh, the cutoff point; yes, I know. No wonder this criteria renders a mirror image of the current P4P.

I guess this helps determine who are the active high risk-takers.

There’s def less distinction between this and P4P stuff on the women’s side than the men’s.

It's understandable I suppose, as you noted that certain publications have just begun to catalog, grade and measure the top female champion's. I find it hard to even find updated rankings from the four sanctioning bodies. Thankfully, this year set a new standard and now more details we be rendered moving forward.

                    Thanks for keeping track, 1.
