A lot of wild swinging from Shields in their amateur fight, mostly hitting gloves or hitting nothing. But she'd still have won it if it had been a professional fight, because of the higher work rate, and the way she was always the one coming forward. Aggression counts for a lot in the pros, but nothing in the amateurs, where only punches landed in the target area count, and only punches delivered with the right part of the glove. It's significant that a couple of times Shields was cautioned for hitting with the inside of the glove. If the judges had the same impression, they wouldn't have scored her punches. At the same time, Marshall's superior jab was a definite point-scoring weapon and her countering throughout.

And who cares about a fight 10 years ago, neither girl is the same though if either if them is the more improved of the two being object you have to say it's Marshall.
