Paul Williams was not a great fighter I don’t care what anyone says. Him being a good fighter is debatable.

As is the stellar Punisher record: https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/20755

Chock full of top fighters of his era with he and Margarito being the two most ducked fighters of their era. Sadly cut short by a horrific motorcycle accident age 30. Precious few fighters have accomplished so much by age 30, and Canelo was a great matchup.

Canelo would fold that bean pole in half with a body shot.

I would pick canelo by UD but Paul's work rate could give him trouble, canelo's newer walk em down style is better than his pure boxing style back then for a volume guy like paul.

Maybe paul could "win" but chances of judges giving him a UD are basically nonexistant. I mean one judge gave Canelo 6 rounds on mayweather and all 3 judges gave him 5 rounds vs Bivol.

You have to thoroughly dominate canelo and win every round just to be safe from a draw.

Lara UD'd Williams pretty easy in my opinion in a robbery. Paul was too easy to hit more Mexican Style than GGGimmick by a country mile. Canelo beats him, and might even catch him with something clean in a wakey stoppage.

I think Canelo stops him in the later rounds. Since Sergio Martinez KO'd Williams. he was no longer the same boxer.

Williams was always vulnerable to southpaw counter punchers. Look at his 3 losses. He shut out Ishida in his last fight right after Lara.

I saw him fight plenty. The dude lost to Carlos Quintana lol. He should’ve lost to Lara and he robbed Sergio Martinez the first time. Then what does he do after that? He runs into the same left hand that was punishing him in the first fight and gets himself slept. No ability to adjust whatsoever. It’s unfortunate what happened to him but that’s what he was.

Williams was showing signs of wear so it's really hard to say.
