Seems clear he said this to avoid benavidez. Probably told al haymon this is why benavidez cant be in the original contract. Now he's gonna fight a mexico-born fighter munguia

Canelo made this statement because of the Mexican fans division during the build up of Canelo-Chavez Jr. They were divided and fighting each other and Canelo said he didn’t like that and won’t fight another Mexican. Benavidez wasn’t on any radar when Canelo made this claim.

This is a fact. But people will make up whatever they want if it fits their narrative.

With that said, I want to see Canelo vs Benavidez.

Its pretty clear now that canelo made up a creative reason to avoid benavidez . Now he is fighting a mexico-born fighter in munguia. He continues to call himself the best . I think everyone should acknowledge he is carefully choosing opponents
