Gennadiy Golovkin's trainer doesn't consider his fighter's move up to 168 pounds a disadvantage, even against an elite-level rival who has become the fully unified champion in the super middleweight division.

Remember when Canelo moved up to 160 and his first fight was against GGG. Now GGG is moving up to 168 and his first fight is against Canelo.

Canelo's first fight at Middleweight was against Cotto for the belts. Then he dumped the belts to avoid fighting GGG. He claimed he would not be dictated to, and was too small for Middleweight. People that dislike Canelo point to this obvious duck. For me, it's why Canelo can never be the greatest Mexican champion.

He fought Cotto at an agreed upon 155lbs. He fought Chavez Jr at 165lbs for his first fight at 160lbs or above before GGG. Chavez Jr was a fight that even GGG was after. So much so, that he was willing to fight Chavez Jr at 168lbs but not Andre Ward. Obvious duck for me. That’s why GGG can’t ever be the greatest Soviet champion.

And when he fought GGG at 160lbs, GGG was #1 ranked, undefeated, and favored to beat Canelo.

If you say his first fight at MW was vs Cotto, it sounds like you are being technical. If that’s the case then Canelo’s first fight at Middleweight was vs Angulo since that was at 155lbs.

Yeah, anything above 154 is Middleweight. I guess Angulo was his first Middleweight fight. It makes his claim of being too small for Middleweight a bunch of BS. And nobody ever claimed GGG was the greatest anything.

GGGs always been a very big middleweight imo, not huge but bigger than almost all his opponents and 168 would benefit him i think. his trainer says otherwise but he has to be stronger at 168 ggg said so himself.

No way, he told Andrade Ward - look at me, I'm very small middle-weight so why is he in the fight instead of 154?

Alfredo Angulo was Canelo's first fight at Middleweight. Anything over 154 is Middle.

Golovkin was willing to fight Ward at 168. The problem was, Ward wanted a 50/50 split of the money. Golovkin decided that considering he was the A side in this negotiation, that the fight would have to be a catch weight if he wanted the even split to get something out of it and not give Ward all that he wanted. Either that or take less for the fight at SM. Ward didn't do it and decided to keep fighting bums instead.
