Will 168 benefit GGG this weekend or will he just be a blown up Middleweight?

What’s the boxing community’s opinion on this topic?

I think he’ll feel great at the weight but I’m not sure he can take a full fledge Super Middleweights power like he is going to feel this weekend.

I think it'll help him, but it would've helped him even more if he had moved up a bit earlier and not just now for the biggest fight of his life.

helps him for sure. losing weight becomes worse as you age. Look at Hopkins when he moved up to fight Tarver. Looked great because he didn't have to cut weight anymore. went a strong 12.

It's harder to come down in weight, especially someone like Canelo who has those bodybuilding muscles like RJJ did at HW.

Only blown up if he packs on weight that he shouldn’t. And Canelo is no bigger than him. So he should be fine.

Don't know how much difficulty he had to make 160 which could be his optimum fighting weight. At his age it is better not to cut so much weight and punch resistance. He fought Canelo twice before so he is not really fighting a guy that is much bigger than him.

Canelo is definitely bigger than him.

Canelo at 154lbs he weighed 174lbs against Trout. Canelo was already bigger than GGG back at 154 on fight night.

this is before tainted meat. he's gained 10 lbs of solid muscle.

Canelo doesn't reveal his fight night weight for a reason. I wouldn't be surprised that Canelo was 190 on fight night against Bivol

He is almost 40 so not having to cut weight will still benefit GGG.

Its like you had hatton at 147 vs floyd and everyone wanted to act like 147 was harder for hatton but forgot that he also benefited not having to cut weight.

GGG doesnt blow up inbetween fights like Hatton but its still harder to make weight the older you get, he has fought above 160 before for that very reason

It'll help. He also doesn't have to come in at 168. Coming in 2 or 3 lbs under would be just as fine. Probably should've moved up already but he's facing a familiar opponent so the new weight won't be completely new.

They’re the same size. Canelo was 172 vs Trout. Golovkin has been at least 173 a few times. A little discrepancy mens nothing, and Canelo is shorter.

Canelo was 174 lbs for Angulo on fight night. that is higher than any GGG fight night weight.

This was almost 10 years ago. You would have to be an idiot to think Canelo didn't add on substantial weight since then. He will be way bigger than GGG on saturday night.
