Comments Thread For: Golovkin Ready To Settle Unfinished Business With Canelo Alvarez

By Thomas Gerbasi - No matter what happens on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Gennadiy Golovkin will be a first-ballot hall of famer when he hangs up his gloves. The numbers confirm it, whether it's his 42-1-1 record with 37 knockouts, or status as the middleweight champion from 2010 to 2018 and again from 2019 to the present with 22 total title defenses.

It will be an interesting contest. What wasn’t mentioned in the informative article was before their second bout, Canelo was caught twice for using performance enhancing drugs in his drug test. TWICE! He was suspended because of that. Canelo’s team lied, saying it was drug in the Mexican meat. But clenbuterol is destroyed when it is cooked. Also, the home cooking for Canelo seems always present. It was there when he lost just about every minute to Mayweather, when one judge called the fight a draw…and never judged another contest. It was there when Adelaide Byrd had a laughable score during the first fight with GGG that got her in hot water. That contest was a clear GGG win. And it occurred in the Bivol fight, when Alvarez won rounds when he barely landed few scoring blows. So watch for more judges’ home cooking on Saturday. Two of the judges were the ones that gave Canelo such a close loss against Bivol, a fight that wasn’t close at all. The cards are stacked, and may be dealt from the bottom of the deck.

I think those who see Canelo easily winning the fight might be surprised. This is no walk in the park. It is going to be a brutal fight. Both are proud and highly skilled elite fighters who take a good punch. Get past the name-calling and fanboying and enjoy a historic fight.

Four years out from the 2018 fight, what can G do better than he did in that fight, where the judges awarded Alvarez a MD in a close, competitive fight. Canelo's a good fighter but he follows the Mayweather blueprint of fighting good fighters when they aint that good anymore.

That's provably false. He just fought Bivol, a good fighter who is still good.

I was one of them before the fight got made, but now that we’re here I feel the same as you. The other two fights were close fights, proving them to be evenly matched. Canelo is coming off a loss, while GGG is coming off a KO win in Murata’s home turf. Just saw a video of Canelo literally draining buckets of water out of his sauna suit, while G will be enjoying an extra 8 pounds for the first time, which will probably be a very welcome advantage. Lastly, GGG has always had the better stamina of the two so if anything his advanced age will make them more even, and he will have to conserve and make the adjustments that a wily veteran like himself should be able to do.
This will go down as an historic rivalry, between two elite middleweights. We’re in for another treat.

Golovkin chasing this fight shows us that he's still hungry for that official victory over Canelo. He said it yesterday. He's doing this for the sport. Will it give him a payday? Of course. But that's not Golovkin's M.O. He's genuinely a fan of the sport and feels like the sport and himself were disrespected in the previous two outcomes. Golovkin is coming for vengeance. I hope he sparks Canelo.

Golovkin has had a pretty stellar career, and a great long period of being the middleweight king.

He may have one more great performance left. I think Canelo has a big edge at super middleweight though.

Also, Golovkin seems to have been on the slide after the second Canelo fight, especially his struggle against Derevyanchenko.

He didn't look too good for a few rounds against Murata, and a worrying sign he was quite easy to hit.
