Ruiz can't get past a good jab. That's his problem. I've never seen Ruiz have the skill to close the distance when he's constantly on the end of a jab. I don't think it's the footwork but the skills. I mean his footwork isn't that great, but there are other issues, such as avoiding getting caught when he comes in. Interestingly, Reynoso wants him to come back to the gym. Reynoso who puts a premium on defense when he trains his guys. Might be a good idea.

A lot of people can't get past a good jab. From my expereince and what I saw last night, he looked gassed early. Fighters have all kinds of tricks to hide it, but his inactivity and just hobbling around to me says he didn't have the energy.

Ruiz has elite, natural talent. That said, he is short, short armed and flat footed with no upper body movement. He also fights far too heavy But that “weight” is what gives him the pop he NEEDS in the heavyweight division. He should be a cruiser but at that size he would meet men as fast as himself and would have problems.

Which is pretty crazy when you think about it lol this era is trash but the top 2 guys right now are the only ones with skill
