Comments Thread For: Rahman: Everything Fury Can Do in Boxing - Usyk Can Do It Better!

Former WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman has tabbed Oleksandr Usyk to overcome Tyson Fury in a potential full division unification. There are ongoing discussions to stage Fury vs. Usyk in the early part of 2023.

Heard a lot about Fury’s (and every other HW’s) physical advantages over Usyk. Namely, size.

What no-one mentions, though, is that Usyk has plenty of his own with superior balance, agility and a lower centre of gravity; I can rarely remember Usyk being so-off balance that he’s fallen, whereas Fury’s had his feet caught under him and been knocked down numerous times. Yes, mostly against Wilder, but if you watch every KD, you’ll see they were all avoidable with different feet placement. Fury was only severely hurt by the finishing left hook in the first match and falling backwards as a result

This is NOT to say Usyk’s gonna put Fury on the canvas by any means, but to use the Wilder example as evidence of the kind of difference I’m talking about in one area.

The contest will absolutely hinge upon whether Usyk can exploit this. My prediction banks upon this, but if he can’t, it’s good night.

I love Usyk, but Fury will be a tough prospect for him. Fury’s ring IQ is a lot higher than the likes of Joshua, he’s a lot more natural in the ring and can adapt during a fight and change style / tactics if needed (an advantage Usyk has had over AJ, Chisora etc).

Fury’s also adept at using his physical advantages, he’ll use all of his height and weight to keep the fight long and tire Usyk on the inside, something other heavyweights have not been able to do. He also has enough pop to hurt Usyk.

Really tough prospect for Usyk to overcome if the fight happens.

Usyk can’t fight inside, there’s one thing he can’t do better for a start

Good points you make. Part of being off balance in the Wilder fights may have been that he HAD to get his head out of the way of those haymakers and his feet didn't keep up with his upper body. I'll have to watch the Wallin Fury fight again - I'd say that Wallin might be the other HW most (although not very) similar to Usyk. But with Fury taking such a good punch and getting up and recovering so quickly I can see him more or less walking down Usyk but missing a lot - more or less a reversal of Fury-Wilder.

One other thing Fury has in spades is endurance - how he got up and took it to Wilder after the 12th round KD in the first fight is possibly the most thrilling 90 seconds of action I've seen in HW boxing the last 20 years .

It's hard to call this fight. That's why it's intriguing even if it will be boring chess match, until one of them pulis away bagging rounds so the other goes hell for leather then it becomes exciting.
I'm sure once fury loses opening rounds he will go berserk and make it into a streetfight, obscuring usyk vision with elbows whilst throwing right hooks

              Thanks, mate.

His will to get out of crisis situations is next level, no doubt. This gives you the extra 5% when you’re in hell

He also can’t (please note that this is all sarcasm):

                (1) load his gloves
                (2) buy off his opponent’s corner
                (3) place a gypsy curse on his opponent
                (4) slather himself in baby oil

So as we can see, he’s cooked

"Everything Fury can do in boxing, Usyk can do better"...Hmm, Fury can impose himself better, can bully Usyk better, can put his weight on Usyk better, and can hit rabbit punches better.

I think usyk is getting underestimated against fury. Usyk heart is bigger than a lions. He’s got the same mental strength as fury if not more.
