Agreed; lack of stamina is the big problem that jumps out with plant, and while I suspect that improper training may be responsible for some of that, I also notice that Plant does not seem nearly as relaxed in the ring as many other top-level fighters. When an athlete is relaxed, they contract the muscles responsible for producing a given movement while relaxing--to the greatest extent possible--the antagonists of those muscles and everything else. Plant, on the other hand, looks a bit like a bodybuilder in the ring--whether throwing punches or moving around--in that everything seems to be at least "semi-flexed". If this is the case it both cuts down on his power and dramatically increases his energy expenditure.

I think maybe his body fat is too low, he looks to have no energy stores at all. Which may mean he needs to move up and stop draining himself. He loves clean and doesn’t blow up and from what I have seen of his training his S&C coach has him doing a lot of power training which is the right way. But to be honest being ripped to the bone isn’t always what you want for a 12 round fight. Holyfield could do it but he didn’t have to make weight as a heavyweight.
You are probably right. He is a pure boxer which makes it even more puzzling because that style is very measured.
But after watching Roy Jones in his prime for many years, I guess I got spoilt and became unforgiving. Roy used to throw punches in bunches like no other. For a muscular light heavyweight to fight that way just shows how bad these new guys are.

Carl froch had stamina issues in the early part in his career, he corrected this problem, knowing that as a hard puncher, excellent levels of stamina would be an advantage, as others have posted, plant just runs out of steamComment
