Comments Thread For: Luis Ortiz Motivated To Make Statement, Put Andy Ruiz To Sleep

By Thomas Gerbasi - Go ahead...you could go for the one that Ortiz is so old he tried to climb up Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. Or maybe play off the existing meme of heavyweight great Jack Johnson training in 1909 with a sparring partner who had Ortiz' face photoshopped on his body. That one was a viral post Tyson Fury even re-sent to his followers it was so good, with the point being that the Camaguey native is the oldest looking 43-year-old in the world.

Good article. Ruiz is the one with more future. For example, if he wins, I can see a rematch with aj.

Luckily for Ortiz, he’s at the age where he can put people to sleep by telling a story that doesn’t go anywhere

As old as King Kong is, whether it's mid 40's or early 50's, he still has a chance to beat Fat Mandy. Everyone said "old, shot" Arreola had no place in the ring with him and he would get "destroyed" but he took Ruiz to the limit and arguably could've got a draw in that fight.
It's the heavyweight division with an aging Cuban whose legs are not the same yet can still punch and has fast enough hands to land some big shots and a younger, but notoriously undisciplined Mexican ****er with fast hands but short arms and slow feet. Is it worth paying PPV for? Hell no. Does it have the potential to be a very exciting heavyweight matchup. Hell yes.

The only people that want to see Andy lose are the grubby little Mexican haters.

Difficult fight to pick but I'll take the roided up 43 year old who trains hard over fat 33 year old with a history of not training hard enough.

53 year old with blood pressure problems who had trouble against Charles Martin, the worst heavyweight champ of the last 30 years, won't win this fight unless Andy is obese again.

Ortiz didn't get a chance until he was in his late 50's. He was the best in the world for a long time but never got the opportunity. Now in his 60's everything he does is an amazing shadow. I love this fighter. I can only think what if. I have a feeling I'll be saying this about more and more guys who never seem to get an opportunity. I think it's about time to have a unified ranking system that takes no account of promoters, with mandated fights where avoiding your mandated fight means a loss in ranking. The best MUST fight each other!!!

I like both and have always been disappointed with Ruiz because he's super talented and he's lazy. I'm not saying he doesn't train but I'm sure he's stubborn and inconsistant, especially now that he has money. He looked pretty trim (trim being relative lol) in a recent interview and I don't think I've ever seen him tired (even in the second fight vs Joshua) or hurt. Can't imagine he doesn't win this fight.
