Comments from one of Usyk’s corner in relation to round 9 of his recent skirmish against AJ have got me thinking about rounds that have taken on a life of their own in the aftermath of big fights, but upon replaying, looked nowhere near as significant as on fight night.
An example that came to mind for me was round 7 of Wilder vs. Ortiz I; yes, Wilder was wobbled, but in recalling the round before watching a replay, I would have told anyone that would listen that Ortiz had gone 100% Bruce Lee on the man and almost put him in the next dimension; in other words, I probably mythicised the event because I wanted him to win.
Along these lines, if anyone wants to state examples of much eulogised and/ or overrated rounds of boxing, the people wanna hear it!
