This was a horrible match up, and Richard Torrez Jr. damn near killed his sacrificial opponent.
The promoters need to match these up, and coming fighters against better opposition before a tragedy occurs.

The Great Nash likes it. That old-school look gives him a selling point and a way to stick in people's minds. I'd never seen him before, and watched him last night surely based on that I wanted to see someone with the Tom Selleck look have a fight. I like this Torrez guy. Entertaining style. Needs to step it up now though. No reason why he can't be fighting guys around 40-50 on Boxrec rankings right now. Nash out.

        Agree 100 with you.
He did give Jalolov a good fight in the finals.
I also think he'd be better suited to go the Usyk route and try out Cruiserweight before going for the big boys.

Keith, no mention of the vicious—and illegal shot Torrez landed while Caneda was on his knees from the first knockdown? If it wasn’t a blue-chipper like Torrez involved, any other fighter might have been DQ’d. It could be that Caneda was concussed by that foul shot.

The ref should've penalized Torres a point for the first one, and given Canedo 5 mins to recover. On the 2nd one, only thing is Torres could've not thrown the 3rd punch but it was all within a split second so I don't think it was intentionally dirty. The real crime was putting that poor guy in the ring with Torres in the 1st place. Shameful.

Are you serious? LOL! Mike had about 10x the technique level by age 17 than Torrez has right now. He has talent clearly, but he was WIDE open and came swinging at Canedo like it was a Toughman contest. The one thing they have in common is fighting stiffs early in their career. I hope Torrez can improve quickly in the pros, but he's not going to get better fighting bums who all 3 combined so far lasted less than 2 minutes.

Only thing he lacks is size for the Heavyweight division IMO.

I still can't erase the memory of Jalolov viciously KOing Torrez in the Amateurs.
I give Torrez a lot of credit for fighting with guts and a winning desire in their rematch for the gold medal. Rocked that giant southpaw on a couple occasions.

Dude, I agree 100%. I said to the wife, "When did Magnum P.I. transport himself from 1985 and start boxing?" LOL. I still can't get over his look, it's just too hilariously awesome. I also went back and looked at his fights and it appears that as long as he continues to work on his defense and body control, he could be decent. Yes that 6'7" behemoth KO'd him badly, but he went back in there and gave him more than he bargained for in their rematch for the gold medal.

Yeah, I've been looking into his history. Still a very young HW. Looks older as he had an old-style look, but great to see Magnum P.I. boxing his way to the top. I've decided to put my faith into him and in my sig, he is now P4P number 2. Nash out.
