Comments Thread For: Pedraza: Gervonta Davis' Development Has Been Incredible To Watch; A Complete Fighter

More than five years have passed since Gervonta Davis won the IBF junior lightweight title from Jose Pedraza. The powerful southpaw from Baltimore remains the only opponent who has stopped Pedraza inside the distance. Throughout Davis' ascent in multiple divisions, many boxing observers have continued to identify Pedraza as the best opponent on Davis' list of conquests.

I hate it when fighters say they don't want to make an excuse and then go on the make an excuse in the same breath.

well if hes a complete fighter now he should consider retiring and living off the accolades because if he loses he will be just another over hyped bum for all time

Watched Heavy artillery vehicle Davis that night, and was blown away by his prodigious talent.

Had no idea that 5 years later, instead of that fight being the lift off to major, major things, he’s fought no-one worth a dime.

Pedraza is a class act. Looking forward to the contrast in skillets between him and Commey tonight.

I definitely had trouble making weight [for the Davis fight], but that’s not an excuse. He was the better man that night. He beat me. But I also feel, at the same time, that if I didn’t have those problems making weight that maybe it would’ve been a different story. I was in the fight. But, you know, I don’t wanna use that as an excuse.
No excuses...here's an excuse, but that's not an excuse.

Very clever, Pedraza. Folks hate Tank and Floyd so much that they gave you a pass for this, the same thing Wilder did that they trashed him for.

It’s a bull**** excuse, for sure.

Few things **** me off more in boxing than people weight bullying for ages, then saying they need to move up because the weight’s “killing them” after getting outclassed by someone they were supposed to be bullying.

I don't know how good Davis is, I haven't seen him in a bad odds fight, where he's the underdog. Never saw him hurt bad. I know he has a canon and I saw him waltz Rolly into a trap. In the ring, Davis is smart, a dangerous man,
