    HOLLYWOOD, Florida - The age-old adage is that boxers don't retire from this brutal sport, it retires them. Omar Figueroa Jr. came to that painful realization in the immediate aftermath of his one-sided, technical-knockout loss to Sergey Lipinets on Saturday night at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Figueroa is just 32, yet he knows his body won't allow the former WBC world lightweight champion to continue his career.

      Probably both body and mind have reached their limits even if the heart still wants it (and I'm not sure it does). Figueroa was a warrior and had a nice run, best of luck to him in his next chapter.

              I was surprised to learn he’s 32. His face is very young but his body looks 40.
              Hes built to be a natural 122-126 pounder. Fighting outside of your “natural weight class” is very hard on your body. Both inside and outside of the ring. Good. Luck to him

                  He should have learned to duck. Eating leather and walking through blizzards of cow hide isnt healthy.

                          That fight with Arakawa was some of the most savage, "I can't watch much more of this" kinda boxing I've seen in the past decade. All the best sluggers from that era are retired – Figueroa, Provodnikov, Rios, Alvarado, Matthysse, Maidana, Soto Karass, Molina Jr...

                              This came to mind seeing his retirement. That fight took too much out of him and he never looked the same after that.
