Comments Thread For: Navarrete: There Were Brief Conversations With Shakur's Team; We Can Revisit After August 20

Emanuel Navarrete has made known his intentions to one day face Shakur Stevenson. There was a brief internal discussion among his team that led him to believe it could have happened as early as this weekend. Nothing really came of the preliminary talks, though he hopes it's at least a starting point for a future conversation in his quest to eventually become a three-division titlist.

Shakur destroys him.. brutal KO. Like less than 3 rounds.

      Naverette too small for Stevenson.

Neither can get unifications in their weight because arum wants to keep everything in-house.

Navarette to small. If Shakur looked alot bigger than Valdez then imagine a guy from a smaller weight class.

Navarette a very busy fighter and throws non-stop hooks with both hands. That has worked with every fighter since Dogboe. If he brings that to Stevenson, it will be Navarette's downfall. But I would still love to see it. It would be fireworks while it lasted. Bring it on!!!

I wish Shu-Shu could take a crack at Navarette, even with only 4 fights! I know it won't happen, but that kid is going to be a star!!! BK Stand Up! Navararette, MAN UP!

I like Navarrete but Shakur smokes his boots if they fight.

If they were evenly sized Navarrete would have a very good chance at winning with his off beat rhythm and heavy punches but Stevenson is a massive 130 pounder and Navarrete just came up from 122; Stevenson rehydrates to the tune of 15 to 20 lbs. easily. That’s partly why he has been dominant at these lower weight classes.

He's dominant because he has a defensive style and picks his shots strategically depending on the tendencies of his opponent. That's a rarity in the lower weight classes because most of them throw so many punches per round, they tend to have an offense first mindset.
