    I was wrong

I figured that Mayweather would have lost a step somewhere over the last 2 years...ring rust, problems outside the ring, maybe even the weight loss. and because of those, I thought Marquez could actually win two or 3 rounds.

but nope. that was not competitive. Marquez landed maybe 2 flush punches the whole fight, and it was in one round. Floyd just leaves nothing for granted, even paying 600k to make sure he wasnt weight drained and had an even bigger advantage in size.

Still entertaining though! in a Calzaghe-Lacy way.

I'm glad this tune-up is over with. What matters is what Floyd does next. As boxingfans we should hope for Shane first followed by the Cotto-Pac winner.
You have got to be kidding me. There is no other boxe that would have made Marquez look that bad. Just seeing how sharp he was showed me that none of these guys compare. **** Shane. That was a good move on his part though.

I'd be hard pressed to name any top welter besides Mayweather who wouldn't KO Marquez.

Yeah I was expecting it to be way more competitive. Marquez was sluggish wit hthe added weight but the skill difference was pretty insane

not too much, but it doesnt change the fact that Mayweather was impressive. I think most top WWs would have beaten Marquez at the weight, but Mayweather totally nullified his offense...not something every fighter could do.

imo it has to do with the way Marquez punches. look how he positions his hands. instead of keeping them tucked in, theyre more positioned parallel to his shoulders. it gives him a little more leverage to his shots when he punches, but makes even his straight right hand and jab a little wide. Floyd can pick off those wide shots with his shoulder rolls pretty easily.

the reach also made a pretty big difference. Marquez could make Floyd miss occasionally and was trying to time him for counter jabs or right hands over the jab, but almost every single time they would fall short because Mayweather could back off so quickly. Marquez had to get really close to even get the opportunity to land anything, and a counter puncher trying to inch his way in on Mayweather just doesnt work. Marquez just isnt that great of a pressure fighter.

it was fun stuff to watch, but you could tell Marquez was getting discouraged badly. He would even get Floyd to the ropes ona few occasions, but was gunshy and would inch back. his only bet at winning rounds was to really put together combos after taking away the ring...but he didnt have near the power to do anything even in those situations.

It was MASTERFUL but we should all wait for Mayweather's next move. I've become VERY interested in Mayweather vs Shane.

Floyd was good yesterday, defence looked good, jab was working, left hook, right hand. It was all there.

I think Marquez had the odd moment, but he just got really badly outclassed. The difference in skill was huge.
