Comments Thread For: Hearn: Top Rank Should've Been Looking At Bivol Immediately After Beterbiev Beat Joe Smith

Eddie Hearn considers Callum Smith, Joshua Buatsi and Gilberto Ramirez the three legitimate options for Dmitry Bivol's next fight. Hearn still can't understand, however, why Artur Beterbiev's handlers didn't exhibit immediate interest in making the most meaningful fight for both Beterbiev and Bivol next. Beterbiev told BoxingScene.com and other outlets after he stopped Joe Smith Jr. in the second round of their light heavyweight title unification fight June 18 at Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theater in New York that he would welcome a showdown with Bivol later this year, but Hearn - whose company, Matchroom Boxing, promotes Bivol - stated during his most recent appearance on "The DAZN Boxing Show" that he never heard from

This dude, all his been talking about is Butasi, Butasi. He's trying to avoid Ramirez and Beterbiev, and let's get it straight, Bivol has NO contract with Hearn, he can choose to work with Hearn but Bivol seems to have no desire to take on a couple of dangerous opponents, so it's on Bivol as well.

Getting pissed off with this ****. How’s Eddie Hills gonna complain about Arum, probably legitimately, when he’s been talking about no-hoper Buatsi non-stop?

Make the goddamn Berba fight, and stop wasting time with this meaningless nonsense

Logic doesn't make sense. Unification could've happened but TR are to blame for not phoning Hearn. Isn't Hearn equally to blame for not phoning them? Is this how Hearn made all those other fights happen, he did literally nothing just waited for somebody to call him? It just seems obvious that's not the way to act when you want a fight to happen and yet that's the best spin story excuse he could come up with.

The reality is that prior to Beterbiev-Smith, Hearn had publicly stated several times that he wanted Bivol-Buatsi next.

Hearn Would 'Love' for Buatsi to Face Bivol in the Fall Despite Trainer’s Comments - Boxing News (boxingscene.com)
Hearn Expects Bivol to Defend Title in Fall, Rematch with Canelo Next Spring - Boxing News (boxingscene.com)
Hearn Prefers Canelo-Golovkin in Fall; Proposes Bivol Face Buatsi-Richards Winner, Smith or Ramirez - Boxing News (boxingscene.com)

So Hearn clearly did not want to do the unification and was not sat next to the phone hoping it would ring with an offer

For the same reason you want to avoid Zurdo, and fight Buatsi, Arum wants to avoid Bivol, and fight Yarde!

Everyone in UK wants Yarde Buatsi have done for ages. He's turned Josh in to a one fight a year mug.

I laugh when promoters like Oscar, go to the media, and say, "Hey Floyd, Ellerbe, call me!" Don't you know (or should know) how to get in touch with other promoters? If Ryan Garcia knows how to get in touch with them, because he's at all their parties and fights, how is that you don't? Same goes with Hearn! So are you telling me that if Joshua wins the rematch, he doesn't know how to get in touch with Arum, Warren, and Fury? Is he going to wait for Arum and Warren to call him?
