His last fight was at MW ( he was like 158), that opponent still competes at MW.

He had been off for 2 years after the Crawford fight and looked like he was just holding weight during the shutdowns but seemed to be in the gym from vids I saw -vaguely remember him saying he was working his way down but wasn't going to make 154 yet. Not sure if it was a struggle to even get to 158

Could be the drained look or could be the look of an aging gang****er who has been in a lot of fights, gotten shot, and (likely) done plenty of drugs because that is who he is. Meanwhile, Danny looks well preserved.

I'll probably end up rooting for Jose though, could get ugly for him but I've always felt like there is some opportunity for him in this matchup (always been curious about this random fight between former TC/Spence opponents)

Kind of curious, you are obviously a Jose Benavidez fan. Why? What has he done? Other than Crawford, who has he fought? Now David is a scary dude! I am one who believes he puts an ass whoopin on Clenelo.

Benavidez looked flabby hitting the pads yesterday, how the heck did he lose the loose skin overnight.

While Garcia is looking quite healthy despite being physically bulkier of the two.

I just looked at Jose Benvidez's record the only name of any value whom he's beaten is Mauricio Herrera, and that was back in 2014.
When he stepped up, and fought for the title against Terrance Crawford he got knocked out, in a fight that Jose did more staring at his opponent after the bell ended each round, then fighting during the round.
Other than that he has a terrible winning record over a whole host of weak opposition, Danny should knock this guy out relatively easy.
Jose is the older brother of David Benavidez who is a fighting dynamo in the 168 pound weight division, Jose is nothing like David.

If Jose walks around at 180 or 190lbs, no wonder his face looks skeletal, he should be fighting at 168 not 154.
That said the top fighters at 168 would annihilate in quick order, I mean he wouldn't get out of the middle rounds.

Love the progress Russell is making and think he is one to watch in the division.
Although Jose's record looks good on paper, leading many to think this might be a compelling fight against Danny.
The fact of the matter is that Jose hasn't fought, and beaten anyone of note, he fought Crawford for the title but got knocked out.
The stakes are high in the sense that the loser is done in boxing, and if Danny can't beat this guy, and I mean by knockout he should consider retiring.
I look forward to seeing this fight, but it's more out of curiosity to see if the break from boxing did Danny any good, like he says it did.
