Although I agree with your sentiment, we'll only truly know if Thurman is a gatekeeper if he can't handle the Ennis/Ortiz/Benn/Stanionis of the world. In order to be considered a gatekeeper, you actually have to fight the upcoming guys. Thurman is aware that he lacks the hunger he once had, and all of the injuries/inactivity are catching up with him. He doesn't want to be at the end of their punches and wind up having an existential crisis in the ring.
Losing to a 40 year old part time fighter and going twelve with a 140lber who got KO'd by a 135lber in his last fight is the very definition of gatekeeper.
If it looks like a gatekeeper, talks like a gatekeeper, and walks like a gatekeeper, then it definitely is one.Last edited by kiaba360; 07-28-2022, 03:50 PM.Comment

I finally watched his last fight only yesterday. Based on the comments here, you’d think he struggled. He looked sharp imo. Pitched a shutout. He should definitely still be in the mix. He lost a split to an ATG who fought like it was his last chance to shine. Other than that Spence and Crawford only have his sloppy seconds on their records. They are all three roughly the same age. Not saying he beats those other two but he deserves some respect froom his career and looked pretty good last time out.Comment

Porter is retired so nobody. Thurman is close to being WBC mandatory.
They want "big fights"? Who else can Porter fight? He's lost most of his big fights to Spence, Crawford, and Thurman. Porter is literally a gatekeeper fighter. Thurman lost his biggest fight to Pacquiao and will most likely lose to Crawford and Spence. Keith needs to join Porter in retirement if he's not going to fight these young fighters.Comment
