Comments Thread For: Hearn on Benn-Eubank: 'It's Not a Cash-Out Fight For Us'

Eddie Hearn wants to make it abundantly clear that Conor Benn has a bright future ahead of him. The head of Matchroom Boxing recently responded to reports that Benn, the rising welterweight and son of Nigel Benn, is gearing up for an intriguing catchweight bout against countryman Chris Eubank Jr.,

No it’s a desperation fight because you lost Usyk-AJ 2 to Sky.

I don't think Eubank Jr is that good, so Benn should beat him, at an ideal weight.

This is probably the best example of a cash-out fight I can think of.

Use the fact that somebody has a famous surname to get them attention facing low risk opponents. Only face guys with zero power, and make sure they are all past prime as well. Avoid other prospects and contenders, even domestic level ones. British title level is too dangerous. Then accept the first big money offer you get, even if it means moving up 2 divisions, because you know you could lose at any point so may as well get well paid for it.

          It’s a cash out fight.

Both Benn and Eubanks (error intended) jr. have already made statements reported on here that they’re after the money fights only.

Benn will take this, then probably lose interest in boxing; manifesting either in early retirement or disinterest

The path to the 147 summit is too difficult right now - Stanionis is a coin flip, Ennis, Ortiz, Spence and Bud are brutal losses. But the latter 4 will all move up to 154 by 2025 - vacant belts will appear and hopefully Benn will be a bit more seasoned by then and there'll be less formidable contenders/titlists in the picture. Meanwhille, keep Benn busy and earning. After Eubank if he wins a Taylor fight could make sense.

Eubank Junior has taken on big challengers, and won some big fights 'Saunders, Groves, Degale'.

Benn in comparison, I don't think has taken on any big challengers.

This is maybe Benn's first big challenge, and it will be at a catch weight so it seems 'Which I dislike'.

Going off Hearn's comments, I wouldn't be surprised if Benn fights another Van Heerden/Algieri type name next.

I'd love to see him fight Avanesyan or Stanionis next, but that won't happen.

Hearn finally realised that Benn won’t get big welterweight or jr middleweight fights without Ben fighting on pbc so this was probably the best deal he could offer so Benn could stay in the U.K., fight for a British promotion, and make big money.

It’s a fight that will sell well, It’ll make sense financially for both and actually a fight I’d definitely I’d Like to see. There’s a touch of the unknown to it, but I think Eubank’s size will make the difference in the contest.
