I think this sums it up perfectly.
Canelo truly hates Golovkin, not so much for anything Golovkin himself has actually done but for all the criticism and backlash he has received during the whole "Golovkin saga" of his career (due almost entirely to his own actions, mind you).
The lingering, overarching criticism of Canelo's career has always been that he has everything his own way. Weight, date, even the names on the poster. Not to mention of course beneficial treatment from the judges to put it mildly. In short, everything is set up for him to win, and no where is this competitive inequity more evident and clearly encapsulated than in his trilogy with Golovkin. From initially dropping the title and delaying the fight, to failing a PED test, to getting two gift decisions... the whole episode has been a blight on his reputation. So much so that he may be unable to ever fully live it down.
Because even if he finally earns a legitimate victory over Golovkin in their upcoming third fight, the main thing people will remember is that Golovkin was forty years old. That it took this supposed ATG fighter three attempts and 5-7 years of aging to finally beat the defining rival of his career. That's why Canelo hates Golovkin, and--warranted or not-- the hate is very much real.
