Who is/was more skilled Crawford or Pernell

Pernell was a mich better defensive fighter and athlete but Crawford seems to be a mich better offensive fighter + finisher. Crawford is rangier and stronger. I think Crawford would had got a decision due to his superior physical attributes.

    Better defense - Whitaker
    Better offense - Crawford

Defense wise, Crawford ain't **** compared to Whitaker, in fact, Crawford gets hit quite often, even by tomato cans. Sweet Pea was almost untouchable in his prime

Sweet Pea had very good offense too, a fantastic jab, problem is he couldn't smash a cake

So Crawford is a better offensive fighter, just because he can punch hard, along with the switch hitting, something he excels at

If the question is who's more overall skilled, it's Sweet Pea no doubt, just because he's more proven, against much better fighters than anyone on Crawford's underwhelming resume.

anyone with some level of skill can look like a million bucks against overmatched opponents

I love Crawford but too me asking this question is silly. He never really faced GREAT FIGHTERS except Porter.

lol he stops a 34 year old porter and now we have to compare him to whitaker?

anyways had they fought the speed and defense would have been too much for crawford. yeah he has good offense and strength but he isnt particularly fast and he also isnt high volume so whitaker would pick him off pretty easily

...is it me or is Crawford's defense overrated?

Pernell Whitaker was levels above Crawford. Way more skilled. Sweet Pea actually fought top guys, not the corpse of former title holders and bums.

Pernell was more skilled on offense also. He just didn't have a bunch of power and was usually the smaller fighter vs his opponent.

Pernell was more skilled overall but wouldn’t have the size or power to keep Crawford from coming forward. Crawford has the reach advantage as well. I think it ends up looking like the Trinidad fight but by a closer decision for Crawford.
