So...wat was the agreed upon weight on the contract?

Fight News says "Contractual weight was the 147 pound welter limit, but penalties were written into the contract for excess poundage over 144."

ESPN says that the contract maximum weight was 144 pounds, three less than the 147-pound welterweight maximum...

    Well?

Sounds like some shadiness to me...Marquez got played...

Since when can fighters not file there contracts until right before a weigh-in?

from what i understand, yeah it is kinda bs....

but team GBP/Marquez agreed to the weight as long as there was financial reimbursement... but think about it, what options did JMM have??? put off the fight? cancel it??? second postponement would only hurt later sales even more.... he wants the payday so he'll let him get away with it!

    ***** move by floyd though

They renegotiated the nigth before, that why Floyds contract that was supposed to be in on wednesday didn't get in until just before the weigh in.

Basicly Floyd never intended to fight at 144 but waited until so late in the day that JMM couldn't realisticly pull out.

the Floyd hugger will say it's a 147 fight but we all know differently hell they even annouced it at 144 at teh press conference!

Well if it was contracted at a max of 147, Floyd was free to weigh 147 and below and just pay if he was over 144...

Now if it was a catchweight of 144 and Floyd didn't attempt to make the weight then that would be unprofessional on his part...

According to Shaffer - The fight was promoted as a WW fight with a 144lb agreed upon weight. If Floyd exceeded that 144lb limit, JMM wouldreceive compensation for every Lb. over.

The late contract submission was to avoid potential penalities levied by the Boxing Comission - nothing more. Because all interested parties already knew and agreed that Floyd could exceed the 144lb limit.

            ***
I honestly don't see the big issue here - JMM could have came in heavier but chose 142 as his target weight.

Also there is no weight advantgage because both are within the legal WW limits - and WW's are allowed to come in at weigh-in within those limits.
            ***

Now, to a sticky point - Come fight-night both will be heavier than they were at weigh-in ........... So, why all the fuss, if the weigh-in weight won't be the ACTUAL weight they will fight at???????

And no I don't really care about the weight unless Floyd balloons up more than usual overnight...

144 but Team Mayweather tried to change it to 147 when they realise Mayweather couldnt make weight, They didnt file their signed contracted weight to the Nevada while JMM had his filed but GBP had to retrieved it and change it to 147 with JMM agreeing and initialing it for the fight to go ahead.

Do you really think JMM would actualy pull out??? JMM already knew Mayweather couldnt make weight on wednesday so stop twisting the story.

Also Ellerby stated from the beginning that it was a WW fight ....

I believe the problem started with the mis-information fed to the public - which some how made 144lbs written in stone. And that was incorrect, all along.
