Shakur Stevenson enjoyed a homecoming for his last fight before officially entering the title picture. His next trip home will come as his stock has never been higher. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Stevenson will next face Brazil's Robson Conceicao in defense of his lineal/WBC/WBO junior lightweight championship. The bout will headline a September 23 ESPN show from the Prudential Center in Stevenson's hometown of Newark, New Jersey. The show takes place on a Friday, due to already scheduled all-day college football programming.

this was expected. homecoming inhouse fight and conceicao was unlucky against valdez. he's also already old for this division so there's no reason to wait. shakur should fight navarrete (another inhouse fight and a possible wbo mandatory when navarrete moves up) after this one and then move up to lightweight. cordina and gutierrez have mandatories overdue. conceicao is probably the best opponent for shakur's next fight.

This is great fight between two supreme boxing technicians, I thought Conceicao comfortably outboxed Valdez and should have been the champion. It’s good to see he’s getting his chance again, that said, I think Stevenson will win this match up, he’s more talented, strong at the weight and a sure future pound for pound star. It’s good to see these fights getting made, the best fighting the best, long may it continue!
