  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: I Love Bam Rodriguez, I Think He's A Star

The future couldn't be brighter for Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez. The fact that the unbeaten 22-year-old has not only chosen to stay at junior bantamweight but is prepared to face the division's elite talent is music to the ears of Eddie Hearn, Rodriguez's co-promoter along with Teiken Promotions. Next up for boxing's youngest active titlist is the first defense of his WBC junior bantamweight title, as Rodriguez faces former two-time champ Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at Tech Port Arena in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

My goodness! If he goes on to actually win vs SSR, then Gallo, Choc, and JCM in ANY damn order… he’s easily P4P #1 and there’s no debate! One thing I’d to “map” it out and another is to actually see it cone to fruition. Bam would def be in any of those fights, the kid is special.

The winds approach on this ship, matey! Jessie 'Bam' Rodriquez is catching the big-fish at the right time. But hes got a starving maneating great-white in Sor Rungvisai on his hook, at 22 the lad has yet to obtain his man-strenght and the waves are high in this storm!

Eddie Hearn just might ruin this boy, like he done Kell Brook. There is no need for such a risk, Hearn mentioned Julio Cesar Martinez as the last champion/option on the list, when he should be the first considering Martinez is the natural flyweight -- which reminds me, how Hearn staged the savage beat down for Julio Cesar Martinez vs. Roman Gonzalez, and here he is doing it again vs. Sor Rungvisai.

Its hard to be a bona fide star and cash cow at 115lbs, but with that lineup and the right promotion it could happen for Bam Rodriguez. He's got the skills and poise to beat all of these guys.

Fortune favors the bold. You don't become a great fighter letting opportunities for greatness pass you by. Bam Rodriguez is young, but he's polished and ready for anyone at 112-115 right now.

            Promoters can't win

Most of the time people are mad because they're trying to take low risk fights for maximum money

Hearn talks about a murderers row because he's got faith in his fighter and he's still the bad guy

Precisely. Hearn gets all kinds of stick on this site, but, from where I'm sitting, he's doing his job better than most. It's the trainer's job to get the fighter fight ready, but its the promoter's job to see the opportunities (to make the fighter money) and to make those opportunities happen.

I fail to see how this mandatory is a opportunity for Jesse, its more like a obligation considering that Sor Rungvisia is due. What does Jesse win? it seems that Sor Rungvisai does not improve Jesse's standing among the top Superfly-weights ( Gonzalez-Estrada ) -- 'Bam' cant even fight his brother at the weight

If you fail to see the upside of beating Sor Rungvisai (and the rest of that line-up) then maybe you just can't see at all. There is virtually no downside to taking on these challenges now for Rodriguez. Bam is younger and fresher, but if he loses, fans will largely dismiss the loss as a lack of experience. Jesse moves on with his career with far greater name value and earning potential off the exposure. If he wins (which he as a great chance) then he moves on to even bigger nights with more of that DAZN money. Like I said. Fortune favors the bold. The rest stay poor and anonymous in this sport.

The problem here is that Jesse is not going to fight his brother and has said that he does not want to fight his friend Roman Gonzalez ; so that leaves only Juan Fransisco Estrada -- who is probably going to lose against Gonzalez unofficially for the third time.

Eddie Hearn and Teiken promotions got it twisted, initially, the plan was to go back down to 112 where there are very good fights for 'Bam'. The way I see it, Jesse sees the bag right in front of him and does not want to take that paycut being the challenger at 112 to a Julio Cesar Martinez, a Sunny Edwards a Junto Nakatani.
