Then he got a fight in Russia, met with a Russian oligarch who agreed to pay his taxes if Roy Jones became a Russian citizen.

Roy Jones agreed, had a meeting with ***** and kissed *****'s ring. Ever since then he's been really buddy buddy with the Russian government. He pretends to be just a dumb athlete who's not involved in politics, but that's because that serves *****'s purpose. They play coy and act like it's the US being unreasonable.

Wladimir Klitschko is right to ask Roy Jones which side he's on, but anyone paying attention knows the answer. The author of this article has been covering the sport for a long time. I'm sure he knows all of this. I would not be surprised if he reported on Roy Jones becoming a Russian citizen as it happened. It's irresponsible for him not to mention those details alongside Roy Jones' claim to not be interested in politics. That omission makes this article akin to Russian propaganda because it makes Roy Jones seem like he's not a Russian propagandist.
      Interesting insights.

She either broke their law or she didn't. I love how they always list an athletes resume whenever they break the law as if that makes it ok or somehow counts as some sort of time served for good behavior. As was previously asked, what's the standard sentence for what she's accused of and is she being given an open and fair trial or not? If so I'm failing to see where the "injustice" is just because she's in the WNBA. I see 7 year old girls holding up "Free Brittney Griner" posters. Apparently they have a better understanding of what's going on than I do. Unfortunately just because people in America (regardless of if they're here legally or not or just visiting) don't respect the laws and get away with it doesn't mean you can go elsewhere and do the same.

          Leave her where she is!

They're trying their hardest to bring up her race, gender, sexual orientation, and profession to bail her out- citing discrimination and such. Oh please! Give me a break!

This is why women are out of control here and the country's upside down....a lack of accountability got us to this point. If you do a crime in another country, then stay your there and do your time....we don't want you back.

I remember when the rapper ASAP Rocky spent over a month in a Swedish prison and dumb "culture" fans acted as though he was being mistreated. Yeah right. This SAME guy came back here to the States and has been in trouble with the law since....he was recently arrested for being involved a shooting. Injustice though, right? Don't ya just love it? Lol

So, Roy, whose side are you on? On the side of the aggressor, or on the side of the defender of its right to live. I respect you as a fighter, but I really question your moral compass.
About damn time someone brought this up.

Never understood why people visit another country and break their laws and act surprised at the consequences, if what she did was true.

Why tho'? No one's supposed to have the privilege of committing a crime in a foreign country and getting away with it.

She is used by Russia as a hostage. There is no reason for her not to have trial by now or even released to house arrest. She's not female version of Pablo Escobar, ffs, what she did was minor and if she was a daughter of Russian oligarch, she'd be released within 5 minutes. So, yeah, this is big politics and I applaud brave Roy Jones for willing to risk his life by...I dunno..what did he say he would do that would put him in mortal danger? Ask ***** to release her from a YouTube video?

Klitschko is right to question Jones - he is a propaganda tool raising *****'s and Russian's profile. Dumbass.

Maybe you should write to the US Government to tell them their official classifcation of Griner as wrongfully detained is incorrect then. By law, the US State Dept is required to classify whether US detainees overseas are being held lawfully or unlawfully. They've determined that Griner is being held unlawfully. I'd be interested in what you know that they don't.

Furthermore, go all the way back to the Magna Carta in the 12th century and the principle of habeaus corpus has been a core tenet of the laws of all civilised nations ever since. Which is to say, a government shouldn't be able to just **** someone up without giving them a timely trial. She was arrested in February. Here we are in June, but she hasn't been brought before a court to determine whether she is guilty of anything. Hence, unlawfully held.

If the Russians are telling the truth about the drugs, give her a fair and open trial and let a jury of her peers determine from the evidence whether she is guilty of a crime. Otherwise, let her go.
