Comments Thread For: Alberto Puello-Batyr Akhmedov Vacant Title Fight Ordered By WBA; Ismael Barroso To Face Winner

Alberto Puello finally has a path to his first career title shot. BoxingScene.com has learned that Dominican Republic's Puello will face former secondary title challenger Batyr Akhmedov for the vacant WBA junior welterweight title. A ruling was reached on Friday, following a month-long process of hearing the cases pleaded by the top six contenders as to why each was deserving of the opportunity.

What a joke the WBA continues to be.

Interesting decisions. So Puello vs Akhmedov for the belt, I like Akhmedov to win that fight. I feel like he then beats Barroso as well.

Plus, Ohara vs Sandor Martin in an eliminator. I think Ohara will duck it to fight Ritson, Martin boxes his balls off

Saw this coming. Total corruption by the WBA. The title becomes vacant. Couple of things stink about this. First the WBA break an agreement with the governing bodies to call a mandatory out of turn. Causing Taylor to have 2 mandatories and have to vacate one. Then once this title is vacant, do we get the customary 1 v 2?. No. We get a job interview for no's 1 through 6. But why 6? Why not 4 ? It was always gonna be Puello. Because he's PBC. That's the entity that traditionally puts the most money in Mendoza's pocket. But we have to go to no 6 to get to the next PBC fighter in the rankings. Akhmedov. It's so transparent it's beyond belief. The thing is, I don't begrudge Batyr the shot. He deserves it way more than Puello. But back when he should have got it, when Barrios got a decision he didn't deserve, and the WBA ordered the rematch, remarkably it just seemed to disappear. But then of course PBC didn't own Batyr back then. So a nice bonus for Mendoza keeps Batyr away. But now he's with PBC and their buying him a shot. And of course buying PBC another title. Barroso has just been shafted.

This article in microcosm shows why we desperately need the post-belt era. Barroso's trainer's comments have no credibility because they were playing the game too, they're just upset the corruption hasn't worked in their favour.

This tournament will collapse. If Ohara doesn't enter I expect Prograis to step in and beat Martin.
