Comments Thread For: Hearn Responds to De La Hoya's Criticism: 'He Put Canelo in With Mayweather'

Eddie Hearn was simply amused by the slew of critical comments fellow rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently made about him. De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, recently took aim at Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, essentially questioning the British promoter's boxing acumen and, most of all, blaming him for Canelo Alvarez's recent defeat to Dmitry Bivol. The Russian titlist defeated Alvarez in May by unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in their 175-pound WBA title bout.

Promoters fight each other for Canelo. Canelo is a heavy name. In fact, both fights are Canelo's fault. He wanted those fights despite all of objections and warnings.

Yes he did, and I wish more fighters would do that. We wanna see 50/50 matchups or at least 60/40, not 95/5.

Promoter’s taking Shots at each other is actually good for boxing and business. Look at all the threads on Boxing Scene, hating/supporting a certain promoter stimulates discussion. It’s turned into supporting a football team now and creates more of a buzz/interest into the sport.

Totally agree! Canelo is the pum pum getter, G spot hitter in boxing currently and he’s the guy who’s making the big bucks, chasing the 50/50 fights and the undisputed tag. The culture has changed in boxing because of it and now the top fighters in their respective divisions are trying to do the same. Look at how many undisputed fights that have happened recently, plus the potential ones in the pipeline. This is great for the sport and the top brass are starting to listen to what the fans want.

They do it all the time, it only comes up when they lose, then it quickly becomes he shouldn't have taken that fight.

Its a thing where winners talk loudest while losers pull away and go quite or come with excuses, so before every big fight both sides are loud and then on a loss the winners are all saying I told you so.

So every single big fight has this potensial.

Canelo wants the biggest, toughest fights out there. We respect him for that. The fans love him for that. So it’s just bitterness at the end of the day.
But that's what you did and that's what you said to Bivol at that presser that if he hadn't looked average against Castillo & Richards he never would have been selected for Clenny McBUterol. You literally said that LMAO!

They should just agree, Oscar was a great boxer, Eddie is the much better promoter.
