  • Comments Thread For: Haney on Paying Sanctioning Fees as Potential Undisputed Champion

Devin Haney is far from naive about the hefty financial costs that comes with being an undisputed champion today in boxing. Haney - the WBC lightweight titlist who is gearing up to face WBA, WBA, and IBF champion George Kambosos in a 12-round, 135-pound undisputed title bout June 4 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia - noted in a recent interview that he understands that having all four titles in a division means having to give four separate sanctioning bodies a cut of his purse.

Haney is young. When two retired, veteran champions like Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather speak out against all the belts that each division has and the fees, you know it’s bad.

Haney is like that new guy at the job that is happy to be there and sees the employees with time in, very miserable about their job. And the new guy just doesn’t understand yet and in time, will also feel miserable and want to leave the job.

He isn’t really talking just to talk though. I don’t like Devin Haney, if Kambosos could whoop him in Australia, I would be beyond satisfied. The hugging, featherfisted, email champion being dethroned without even stepping up to real elite competition. That would be great. Fake little crybaby “champions” have no room in this sport, but they take up most of the room anyway.

With that said, Haney is just answering questions as part of an interview. He is required to answer them if he wants to make himself an easy-going athlete for networks, sports publications and journalists.

Im not sure what the exact percentage of fees of various organisations are, but they do take their share that's for sure.

I'm sure it's a bit exorbitant. They have nice shiny belts, have rankings and sometimes order fighters to defend their belts. What else do they do, as Andre Ward said.

Haney is very smart. Aren't the judges appointed by the belt organizations. Watch your mouth
or the judges can have a bad night.

ABC boxing orgs are corrupt. The very payment system they use creates a huge conflict of interest and is unethical. ABC organizations take in payment as a percentage of the purse. The purses are generated by popularity of the fighters, NOT their skill level. The ABC organizations set the rankings of the fighters, supposedly based on achievement and talent but they their payment system incentivizes them to scout for fighters whom will generate the highest purses or to make exceptions to their own rules for any existing champs who are ultra popular like a Canelo. The guys making these decisions get their pay generated from the percentages of the purses. They cannot be trusted to be unbiased.

TLDR, the entire thing is a joke and highly biased and unethical.

This is why we end up with all the ****** diamond belts, champion emeritus, super duper belts, super omega platinum belts ect. Its the ABC executives looking out for themselves making sure they always have a way to throw a high revenue generator into the mix for their belts to get their cut.

The only way to have a fair and ethical ABC title organization is to decouple their revenue from the championship fight revenues. So that means some kind of flat rate system.

ABC organizations are incentivized to get a bum like Chavez Jr into a title holder status over someone more skilled who would generate less revenue. If you were an ABC executive you would rather have Chavez Jr have a belt than Lara because Chavez means you can get a bigger salary, bigger revenue for your organization.

Hold expensive a$$ conventions to show off their money accrued by the sweat of the Champions and Contenders yet to come.
They fly their Sanctioning Body Reps around the world and probably pay them a pretty penny, plus per diem, and put them up in sweets.
Think about all the corruption on top of that. You are naïve af if you don’t think they still play with side money behind the scenes from the high rolling promoters and managers to maneuver their guy up the ladder or to kick someone else out in order to fit their one sided agenda.

When did Floyd speak out against the fees?

Ward has spoken out against the fees, but he never understood how to maximize revenue in the sport and was always busy climbing over dollars to pick up pennies.
