Whittaker is only 24 so they may choose to move him slowly. IMO too slow will be a mistake. If a guy has won an Olympic medal you shouldn't treat him as a novice just because he's had no Pro fights. Making an Olympian fight, like, 12 knockovers over 2 years just dissipates his enthusiasm & encourages bad habits. Whittaker doesn't strictly need to be moved as fast as Yafai or Joyce because time is on his side more, but they should still move him along at a fair lick. I'd like to see him fight for a British or C/W title within 10 fights. He needs to know how tough it is & how good he can be

He reminds of DeGale attitude wise, hopefully he doesn’t believe in his own hype too much cause he’ll come unstuck.

From what I’ve seen from the Olympics to now he definitely has that DeGale air about him. Hopefully he backs the talk up and doesn’t fight like DeGale did at times

I think he’s definitely more talented than DeGale, DeGale’s Gold was a fluke really, I know that sounds harsh but he never medalled in the European’s, never medalled in the World’s and he even lost to Groves in the 2007 ABA’s. I couldn’t believe DeGale’s ego when he turned pro, he genuinely believed he was this special fighter, I couldn’t believe how many supposed “experts” were telling us how “skilled” he was too. I remember thinking I f***ing guarantee none of you have actually watched this kid fight.

Whittaker on the other hand is a truly elite amateur, he’s medalled in all the major tournaments, he was expected to medal in the Olympics really. But yeah his attitude is worrying man, it doesn’t matter how gifted you are, if you start to believe your own hype it tends to bite you on the ass eventually.
