Oh s#$, now that I think about it, he can't be bashed for Wright at all either. Winky arguably beat Jermain Taylor at 160. Of course Hopkins would want that fight when it made him look like an equal to him.

    I can't believe I almost forgot this.

dont really like boxers who's answer to everything is a flurry tho
You should seriously watch the Vargas and Quartey fights.

Those fights are vintage Oscar, and a main componet in my respect for the man.

Hopkins does have a "thing" for "getting even" with anybody who beats him.

Taylor got those controversial decisions over him, and everybody I've ever discussed it with scored the Taylor/Wright fight for Winky.

So beating winky is basically getting back at Jermain.

Same with beating Tarver was basically getting back at Roy.

And beating Pavlik could also be viewed as getting back at Calzaghe ; since Joe/Kelly was all the talk before Bernard stepped in and derailed Pavlik.

The only reason Hopkins fought Winy was because Hopkins has a fetish with beating the guys who he feels beat the guys he was robbed against or in only Jones jrs case lost to. This is why He fought Winky, since he and most felt he beat Taylor, fought Pavlik since he KOed Taylor, and fought Tarver because he KOed Jones. Basically he likes showing the fighters who he feels he beat or lost to in Jones' case that he is better than them, since he can beat the guys who destroyed them easily.

It's impossible to pull one over on him.

If you manage to get the decision ; he'll just beat the guy that beat you, or beat the guy everybody wanted to see you fight but didn't.

He's a genius in many regards, that being one of them, IMO. Ring intelligence obviously being the main regard.

And beating up on Pavlik served a dual purpose. He took even more luster off the Taylor losses by shutting him out on top of edging Wright. I'm of the opinion that Jermain couldn't even fk with the LHW version of Hopkins. Bhop's biggest problem in the 160 fights was his punch output/stamina, and the jump to 175 nearly doubled it. He would've had the extra in the tank he needed to win decisively..with an exclamation point.
