    Vergil Ortiz Jr Appreciation thread

David Avanesyan- Prior to the announcement, Vergil Ortiz was going fight Michael Mackinson in March, despite his low knockout ratio of 2 wins via the way of knockout, Michael Mckinson had no losses and was ranked at the top of the division despite having no well-known wins, Vergil Ortiz got sick with the rare disease of Rhabdomyolysis after leaving RGBA and had to cancel the fight due to how Manny Robles and Ortiz Sr noticed how badly he was performing at his camp. Causing rumors that the weight cut was too much. Vergil clarified that this was due to overtraining as he is known for his Work Ethic which is backed up by multiple fighters at RGBA and Robles's stable. After a 3-month Break, his team has decided to push a fight on August 8, against top welterweight contender David Avanesyan who himself faced Mean Machine and lost, prior to his defeat he beat a very faded Shane Mosley who was 44 years old and lost to Lamont Peterson by decision. After the loss to Kava he improved tremendously knocking out Kerman Lejarraga 2x and Josh Kelly. The rest of the opposition were knocked out inside two rounds.

Egis Kavaliauskas- At age 23, Ortiz Jr faced a hard hitter that is Mean Machine who has a knockout ratio of 78% (23 wins, 2 losses, 18 wins by KO), His preparation consisted of sparring Radzhab Butaev and Israil Madrimov at the RGBA stable, however Robert Garcia decided to leave Vergil Ortiz Jr in the hands of his inexperienced son Pita while he prepares his older fighter Joshua Franco against Moloney for a title shot. He gave Crawford a difficult fight before losing by KO in round 9 and knocked out Avanesyan prior to the fight. Despite Kava landing a lot of clean shots and an elbow at round 2, Vergil adjusted and was the far more effective puncher of the two, he landed 148-of-389 total punches (38%), compared to 75-of-391 (19.2%) for Kavaliauskas. Once he composed himself he knocked down Egis 5x times and knocked him out at round 8 throughout the fight.

Maurice Hooker- "Mighty Mo" fellow Texan and Former light welterweight champion, standing at 5'11 (180cm) with a reach of 80 in (203 cm) he was dethroned by former stablemate of Ortiz Jr's Jose Carlos Ramirez, after his loss he had a decent tune up at Welterweight against Uriel "Bombardero" Perez whom he knocked out at the first round and at the time had a record of 19 wins with 18 KOs, 4 losses with two of via way of Knockout. He had previously knocked out Mathiu Germain who was undefeated at the time with 17 wins at round 5. Once the date was settled for the match up prepared between Maurice Hooker and Vergil Ortiz, Vergil got infected with Covid more than a month along with a right shoulder injury, despite that he still settled with continuing the fight.

Brad Solomon- Prior to his defeat to Ortiz Jr, he was never knocked out and had only one loss by the way of decision, he defeated Demetrius Hopkins the much less accomplished nephew of Bernard Hopkins but won a light welterweight championship belt against an unknown fighter and had a decent record of 33-3-1, he also defeated Adrian Granados who did not have a losing streak at the time, he lost all his major fights by the way decision except Danny Garcia afterwards, he however gave a difficult fight to Connor Benn.

Mauricio Herrera- El Maestro has never lost by the way of knockout before Ortiz Jr in such a dominating fashion, he was 38 years old, and Vergil was 20 years old at the time. He was known to have an unfortunate time losing against the judges as he was thought to be robbed against Jose Benavidez Jr and Danny Garcia who both did not have a loss at the time. He at least accumulated some wins such as Ruslan Provodnikov at the start of his career.
