You are saying your fighter is DUMB and only knows how to follow his opponent, Cutting off the ring is a basic skill, the combination of using your footwork to move SIDEWAYS and use LATERAL movement to keep your opponent in front of you and pump out the jab to pinpoint him on the ropes and block escape routes. Fighters like Foreman and Chavez did this brilliantly.
