    Is Chavez Sr Overrated??

I have been reading in the media that because Chavez Sr had a padded record, he has not faced any good opposition. I honestly haven't watched many JCC fights to be honest.

Take into mind that this is not all his noticeable fights. Just taking a look Indepth into his opponent's resumes.

    Julio Cesar Chavez Sr:
Mario Martinez: who defeated Roland Navarrete who faced Rafael limon X2, winning the rematch and defeated Cornelius Boza-Edwards. This a young JCC first major fight.
Ruben Castillo: who defeated Eusebio Pedroza, he defeated Ruben Olivares, Royal Kobayashi, Rocky Lockridge X2, Juan Laporte. He also fought Salvador Sánchez, Castillo was ahead after six rounds, but ultimately lost a fifteen-round unanimous decision. Had a close fight with Alexis Arguello before being KO in the eleventh round.
Edwin Rosario: He lost to Split Decision to Hector Camacho, beaten Nazario. Defeated Jose Luis Ramirez and who was Koed by him in a rematch. Defeated Frankie Randall. Livingstone Bramble, Roberto Elizondo, Howard Davis before Facing Chavez.
Rafael Limon: Fought Bobby Chacon X4, Winning the first and fourth fight with a draw in the second fight. Challenged Alexis Arguello and getting Koed in the eleventh round, lost to Edwards. Knocked out Roland Navarrete.
José Luis Ramírez: Early on his career he was KO by Ruben Olivares, after winning several consecutive wins he Challenged Alexis Arguello and lost though it is considered a robbery, he lost by decision to Ray Mancini afterwards by UD. He was robbed against Edwin Rosario in the first match up but won the rematch. He lost to Hector Camacho. He KO Cornelius Boza Edwards. He was said to defeat Pernell Whitaker in the first fight but was a robbery to Sweet Pea who later on won the rematch. At the end of his career, he lost to Juan Martin Coggi.
Meldrick Taylor: Not going to lie his resume before Chavez is not really that deep however he attained a Gold Medal in the Olympics and had highly decorated Amateur background, he had a lot of potential before Chavez derailed his career. He was winning by the scorecards in the match up however he was worse off during the exchange.
Hector Macho Camacho: TKO Rafael Limon, Defeated Jose Luis Ramirez, Edwin Rosario, Cornelius Boza-Edwards, Ray Mancini Prior to facing Chavez Sr, he was defeated later on by Felix Trinidad, Defeated Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran who were at the end of their careers. Defeated By Oscar De la Hoya. And had a Draw with Yori Boy Campas.
Pernell Whitaker: He had a draw with Pernell Whitaker which is implied to have been a robbery that was in favor of Sweet Pea. He defeated Jose Luis Ramirez and was robbed in the rematch. He defeated a Prime Azumah Nelson who only ever lost Salvador Sanchez at the time, he defeated Nazario, Jorge Paez, Buddy McGirt and defeated him in the rematch, this was prior to the Chavez fight. Afterwards he defeated Disobelys Hurtado then is said to have lost to Oscar de la Hoya and Felix Trinidad by decision, he lost to Carlos Bojorquez by KO in the fourth 4 after it was declared a No Contest after he won agaisnt Andrey Pestryayev and was discovered to have failed a drug test. It was ******* not a drug enhancement, however.
Frankie Randall: Prior to the Chavez Sr fight, he has KO Edwin Rosario in the fourth round and defeated a faded veteran Chavez, He lost the rematch by KO in the eight. His career had been derailed afterwards only beating the likes of Coggi before getting KOD by him and winning the rematch, after major consecutive losses he rematches Chavez and loses to a very faded Chavez.
Oscar De La Hoya: A Prime Gold Olympian boxer that conquered 6 weight divisions against a Veteran Chavez, Prior to the fight KO Troy Dorsey in the first round, Defeated Jorge Maromero Paez, John John Molina, Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Jesse James Leija, and Darryl Tyson. After he defeated Chavez he defeated Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Pernell Whitaker, Hector Camacho, Wilfredo Rivera, Ike Quartey, Oba Carr, was robbed by Felix Trinidad, was defeated by Shane Mosley in the fight and was robbed in the rematch which at the moment Mosley admitted having taken drug enhancements defeated Arturo Gatti, Javier Castillejo, Fernando Vargas, Yori Boy Campas, Felix Sturm, Lost to Bernard Hopkins by KO even though he was ahead in the scorecards, KO Ricardo Mayorga by the sixth round, gave a difficult match up against Floyd Mayweather at the end of his career, he got dominated and quit against Manny Pacquiao as his last fight. I don't like the guy as a promoter and possibly as person, but he had quite the career.

No, he’s not overrated. His first 45 wins were against Mexican journeymen, but he had some quality wins in the second half of his career, some while moving up in weight. He also beat Lockridge and Roger Mayweather. Never in a boring fight.

His status is very well deserved. You have some people try to spew the narrative that he padded his recorded and fought "87 bums"....most of them just have an agenda to try and discredit JCC.

While that is true that he fought a lot of low level opposition in during that portion of his career....people should keep in mind that that was basically his amateur career. Mexicans, especially in that era, didn't have an organized amateur system like in the US so they chose to go pro and learn on the job by fighting low level opponents.

Also keep in mind that someone like Keith Thurman had about 150 amateur fights before going pro. Lomachenko had 400+ fights. Amir Khan had 110 amateur fights. Ryan Garcia had well over 100....... "87 bums" doesn't seem that crazy after all when you take into account USA and Euro fighter amateur pedigrees.

Btw, great job on his list of opponents and who they fought.

I'm going to be copying it and using it against the lames that try to discredit JCC.
