    Prime Tarver vs Dawson?

Who do you think would win? I think Tarver in his prime would be too much for Dawson. But it would be a great battle. Dawson could go 12 rounds at his best with any lhw in his prime, but win...not sure. Tarver had and still has better power and his set of skills is as complete as Dawson's. His jab is also one of the best in the division ever. In his prime he was also fast. Dawson only has great handspeed and combinations. Tarver's combinations were always deadly in his prime. So I think Tarver would take this, probably by UD 'coz Dawson has shown good recuperative powers but he could also get kayoed.

      He's 40, for starters.

        Hopkins ended Tarver's prime.

But he was still a game opponent. He looked great against Woods winning the IBF belt.

I think, Prime Tarver vs. Prime Dawson, if they fought 10 times I'd say Dawson would win like 6 times.

So I guess I'd give the edge to Dawson, but not by much. A Tarver KO wouldn't shock me at all.

Even in his prime his game wa much like what he does today only his punches had something on them.

I't still a question if Dawson has peaked or not but I'm very tempted to say Dawson.IMO the kid has the right stuff.

I don't think Tarver was ever amazingly quick, good with angles, movement, adapting, well skilled or accurate.

Reasonable in some of those categories, but never as well skilled as Dawson.

So he'd probably still lose a decision.

            Styles makes fights.

I'm getting tired of frigging "oh but if it was prime" threads. No dis-respect to the thread starter, just too much is made of it sometimes.

            Dawson is just better.

Their last fight was pretty close. And that was a 27 yearold vs a 40 yearold.

                It wasn't even remotely close.

And Tarver is a young 40. He hasn't been in many professional fights at all for being 40.

No, but he has been in many amateur fights. Might not be the same, but age is age.

Across the two fights the most common and average score was around 117-111.

That isn't that close at all, and it's rather ridiculous to claim so.

Chad is also improving, and probably won't hit prime for a couple of years.

Why do people have such a hard time admitting that the guy they have fond memories of, isn't as past it as they think, he's just not as good as the younger guy whom just beat him.

If Chad fought at say 29, and Tarver at 35 or something, Chad would win.
