Actually I think Canelo might be a little bigger. Bivol is a small LHW, that's one of the reasons why Canelo picked him.

Size was not the reason I agree with that.

Canelo simply underestimated him he thought it was gonna be easy and spent more time golfing than preparing.

What were their fight night weights?

Mayweather and De La Hoya were similar in size on the scales. I guess Mayweather struggled to get an SD vs someone who was past prime and his own size?

Bivol says he was 183 Canelo's ring weight is guesswork but he looks a fair chunk heavier than when he faced Perro at JMW 8 years ago and was recorded unofficially at 174. My guess is 180+ certainly.

While I agree that size wasn't the primary reason Canelo got outboxed so dominanty, size certainly was a factor. Canelo basically fought the exact same way against Plant - walking him down and throwing power punches until he fell. I thought Canelo looked awful in much of that fight, but the bottom line is that he had no fear of Plant (who cannot crack an egg) and Plant could not take his power. Bivol is not a huge LHW, but he has always been a LHW so he has a LHW's punch and he regularly fights much bigger, stronger guys who punch way harder than Canelo does, so, as he proved, he can take Canelo's hardest stuff without retreating. Bivol could possibly make 168 (he never has), but I wonder if he'd be the same guy at that weight. All through last year Canelo was getting lauded for stepping up to the big boys at 168.
