Comments Thread For: Canelo, Who'll Turn 32 In July, Wants To Fight 'Maybe Six, Seven Years' Before Retirement

LAS VEGAS - Canelo Alvarez has been a professional boxer for almost 17 years. The Mexican superstar is still just 31 years old, in his physical prime, yet he'll get paid to fight for the 61st time Saturday night. If he defeats Dmitry Bivol in their 12-round, 175-pound title fight at T-Mobile Arena, the Guadalajara native will become a two-time light heavyweight champion, five divisions above the weight class in which a 15-year-old Alvarez made his pro debut in October 2005.

Honestly hope he retires sooner than that.
    He got cement feet already.
Hate to see some less talented 30-year-old beat him to pieces because he got old.

Agree man. Would hate to see him lose simply because he stayed too long.

i would disagree with the “cement feet” comment tho. They’re designed to be planted in order to generate power at any time, especially with counters. His upper body movement allows him to stay planted in one place but still make his opponent miss.

He’s always in position and cuts off the ring well. No issues with his feet and the need for lighting fast feet is less necessary the higher in weight he goes.

I seen Canelo only rocked once against GGG but Canelo back was against the ropes so it supported him. Canelo has 3-4 yrs IMO

Bivol likes to box on the outside and using his dimensions. But Canelo is the master at cutting off angles and the ring. I got Canelo by 10th RD TKO... Canelo is making history before our very eyes. Champ after champ after champ just like Eddie Hearn said. Manny Pac man was was 8 division champ which I disagree but it is what it is. Mayweather was fighting fighters out of their prime and making catch weight fights.

I’d say 4 years so at 36 which is still young enough but at a crossroad where a younger guy can beat him.

The better question though is, if Canelo retires at 36 after 10 more fights (including unifying the 175 division and beating guys like Benavidez, Charlo and the top ranked guys at 168/175, what reason could the toxic haters have to accuse Canelo of ducking?

Zero chance he fights on that long. With his style he won’t have much success once his timing and reflexes slow.

Canelo will lose a fight before he hits 36 years old. With little ring movement he will be a sitting duck for a slick boxer.
