Comments Thread For: Dmitry Bivol Sees Canelo Fight as 'The Moment' To Showcase His Skills

By Thomas Gerbasi - Less than a month before Saul "Canelo" Alvarez invaded the light heavyweight division for the first time and knocked out Sergey Kovalev in 11 rounds in November 2019, Dmitry Bivol was preparing for another defense of his WBA title, which turned out to be a near-shutout 12-round victory over Lenin Castillo.

Been watching some Bivol fights. Bivol is the best guy canelo has fought since GGG. Bivol has pretty quick hands, he can throw fast at good power and wont have to pull his punches like that terrible strategy that Kovalev used (assuming kovalev didnt throw that fight and tried). Bivol also has a good chin as shown in the smith fight, he ate some shots there.

Only thing against bivol here is that hes never had a little compact manlet like canelo and where do you even find a 5'7 light heavyweight to imitate him, while Canelo has had a wide variety of styles before and a lot of conventional boxers.

I guess it really depends if canaelo can close the distance and slip under bivols jab to get inside. Also depends how well Bivol takes body shots, if canelo is going to stop him it will have to be broken down to the body.

Surely it's going to be a tough fight for both fighters.
l see it going the distance. Canelo is an active fighter who will press forward because of his height. The only chance for Bivol is to keep and fight from the distance. Without knock downs or knock out, Bivol will lose the fight. Canelo chose the fight for a reason.

Hard to argue with your thought process. But Bivol is much more game than Canelo's past few. Let's be honest Callum Smith lost to Ryder....

I actually see this being a Bivol win by points win.

Bivol is careful and smart and his footwork is way better than what's talked about... he won't get hit enough to lose.

Just my opinion. I'll put $50 or so on Bivol

I imagine that this fight can hinge on Bivol’s power. If Canelo does not feel that he is in a crazy amount of danger, he will further reduce it with body shots. His head movement can help him get inside and he will he much more willing to do that if he is not afraid. He is the better boxer when at his range.

Trash talk and histrionics are not absent. How refreshing! This is a very competitive fight. The two keys are Bivol's ability to control the distance by moving and keeping a strong jab in Canelo's face and that, in turn, depends on how hard he hits. The other key is if he can stay strong throughout the fight. Canelo's constant pressure breaks opponents down both physically and mentally. We shall see.

Question: What have any of these guys like Bivol done to get a fight over Andrade and Charlo?

This fight will depend on how Bivol handles the moment. This is by 10 fold the biggest fight of his career and the atmosphere in the arena plays a huge part. Pressure makes diamonds but it takes time to do so. Canelo is used to the attention and massive crowds and huge fights where Bivol is not. He will either fold under the pressure or step up because of it and come fight night we see what he is truly made of.
