U.S. denies visa to Valero

WBC world lightweight champion Edwin “El Inca” Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) of Venezuela has been denied the renewal of his work visa to be able to fight in the United States. “I have been a victim of discrimination by a situation that is clearly political,” stated Valero, who has often showed his admiration and friendship toward Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. He was hoping to defend his world title against WBC super featherweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto on Top Rank’s November 14 super card in Las Vegas featuring Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto. Valero will now instead defend his WBC belt on December 12 at El Nuevo Circo in Caracas, Venezuela. “Nobody will stop the career of Edwin Valero,” he added. “Please allow me to fight in the U.S., as I do in Venezuela, Europe or Asia. I am the champion and I have enough sporting merit fight anywhere in the world.”
