Once he was a legit killer, I mean he literally killed a guy in the ring, opponents were terrified of them, every shot he landed had serious intentions.

Now he's an old drunk guy who quit vs Andre Ward and has never been the same. The way he never stepped over his front foot vs little Alvarez, for a guy who used to be so fearsome, sealed the deal.
Pathetic, he threw his career away.

At least he stuck with Buddy McGirt though and didn't throw him under the bus. I'll give him credit for that. I credit Buddy big time for his bounce back performance against big Alvarez and Yarde.

Can you imagine for instance Wilder fighting Bertebiev and spending the whole fight running backwards throwing a weak jab and then getting brutally ktfo in the 12th.

      Thays the equivalent.

I give Wilder a lot of stick but he'd never do that.

I mean he's a 3x light heavyweight champion and one of the best light heavyweights of his era. I think he's had a pretty good career for a guy who's done alot of it heart hearted. Think after the first lost to ward tho I think he just didn't really wanna know after that

I actually think the first loss to Ward messed with his head. He won the fight in the eyes of most observers and mine. The look of shock on Ward's face when the decision was announced tells the whole story. After that robbery I believe he checked out mentally. As far as the Canelo fight,he did what he had to do to get that check. That whole sequence still seems su****ious to me. It is what it is and I wish him success at cruiser.

The whole fight was su****ious. As was his fight vs Ward. The ref makes for a good scapegoat and distraction, but how about the way Kovalev took those shots to the balls, and reacted very weird? He has a huge cup protector, he should not have even been feeling those punches. I have seen plenty of boxers hit in the balls and they don't feel it at all. That's what that huge cup protector is for. It's not just a cup, it's thick like rubber padding. Yet Kovalev not only acted like he felt it, but he didn't protect himself or fight back at all vs Ward doing it, and he didn't take a knee either to force the referee's hand. Instead he just leaned forward halfway, the only reaction that lets the fight get stopped over a misunderstanding. I mean, Kovalev really a threaded a thin needle with that reaction, didn't he? How about that....

I mean, if Kovalev took a dive vs Canelo, why should we trust his fights vs Ward or anyone else were real either? Lomachenko has the same manager and just imagine how much money could have been made if you knew ahead of time that Teofimo would beat Lomachenko that way. Of all the fights to get a shoulder injury in... Hah, it's similar to Pacquiao vs Mayweather. And somehow the shoulder injury prevents Loma from throwing punches the first six rounds, when you would be fresher, but after being punched in the shoulder for six rounds, now suddenly he could punch again. It's backwards logic from what actually seems realistic.

This is Boxing we are talking about. A notoriously corrupt and fake sport. I think people stopped watching it completely for that reason decades ago. But "there is a sucker born every minute" and as the years have passed, it seems like they've rehabilitated its image by saying the sport has been cleaned up now that the mob is out of the sport. Yeah, our entire political system is corrupt, but Boxing, nah, Boxing can't be gotten to anymore! You can buy the president of the USA, but not anyone in Boxing... Right... lol...

You make a lot of valid points. It's definitely a corrupt sport. It's a shame that a man can put his life on the line and get screwed by the powers that be. But,there is too much money involved in all sports for there not to be corruption. You can believe it's the fat cats that get fatter at the expense of the commoners every time.

You cant lose that much weight in a healthy way in 2 weeks. You have to space it out properly; mess around and youll end up badly drained. Not to mention training for a specific style, and fine tuning speed and coordination

You can't even get off the couch and do a 2 week camp as an amatuer. Anyone who's ever boxed before knows this lol
I took my first professional fight on five days notice. I'm not saying I was in the greatest shape, but let's be honest: what do these boxers do in camp that make such drastic improvements fight to fight? Fine tuning your skills, for sure, but how often are they on display?

A boxer could keep in shape, year around: like a healthy individual would, and should do, and be ready whenever the call comes in. Boxer's nowadays take 12 weeks, to fight one fight, then take the year off. Willie Pep was fighting every other week, most times.

I think boxing, today, is too focused on sparring and perfection. There are better sparring matches than actual bouts taking place. Crawford is 37-0. I bet he has sparred way over 200 bouts, some against names we would love to see. But all are so afraid to lose, and don't want to look bad.
Just my thoughts, though.. lol. Let him spend 8 weeks away from the development of his child so that he can look average in a new weight class. That's his choice.
