Nobody is calling this a 50-50 fight that's just the B's Nelo fans say -400 Nelo on the books Bivol is given a 20% chance to win. Nelo will walk through this guy probably severely hurt GGG and then who knows it's not like he likes challenging fights. I hate Shakur did that to Valdez because it definitely cemented the type of fighters you won't see in the ring with Nelo. He was having flashbacks.Even though Bivol is a 50-50 fight for Canelo and a tough assignment, he has been calculating in selecting him over Smith Jr, and Beterbiev.
Firstly Beterbiev. He's 37, just under 6'0", 185cm reach, and a 100% KO record with a similar amateur pedigree to Bivol. He has a slightly better resume than the others.
Secondly, Smith Jr. 32yrs, 6'0", 193cm reach, average skills but with a good chin and heart. He and Beterbiev are scheduled to fight in August.
That leaves Bivol. 31, 6'0", 183cm reach, hasn't scored a Ko since March 2018 and has seemed content to be a one belt wonder whilst taking on fighters just below his skill set.
Bivol is technically the most gifted of them all - we haven't seen him buzzed badly, but the one thing I think Canelo's team saw was the tight high guard which is a dream for a body puncher like Canelo.
Bivol has great conditioning, ring IQ, feints, and throws hard combinations, but he isn't the biggest LHW in terms of size. The two attractions for Canelo is the easy route to the body, and the fact he's only got a slight height and reach advantage, as well as not having scored a KO in over four years.
I'm sure if Canelo beats Bivol convincingly, he may opt to challenge the winner of Smith Jr and Beterbiev (which will surely be Beterbiev), and even if he loses he wins because people will say here's a guy who fought much of his career at 154.
Bivol will give Canelo fits for the first few rounds and will mark him up. He has a good defense, so Canelo will need to use every trick in the book.Comment

Bivol needs to jab like he’s never jabbed before and mix power in between those jabs to keep Canelo at a distance. Distance fight he can win, he lets Canelo get inside he gets broken down. He’s gonna have to bring out scorecard desperation or the illusion of it to walk Canelo into something later in the fight. Should be interesting though, I don’t think we’ve see Bivol really really let his hands go and since this is the biggest fight he’s likely to ever have, might be time to let the cannon go.Comment

Bivol is a big guy and Nell don't hit extraordinarily hard. I doubt Nell stops him. He's not drained and no kovalev and fieldingLast edited by hugh grant; 05-02-2022, 09:32 AM.Comment

You have some unusual takes, Hugh. Your first post, in regards to Bivol if get got the W: "But when you fighting a small man is it a great win?"
Answer: Yes, when it's Canelo who's P4P #1 by most people. And Cinnamon ain't that small.
Then this new post: "Nell don't hit extraordinarily hard."
Say what? You're trippin'. Besides power, he has speed, timing, and superb punch placement. Dude hits PLENTY hard.
And I'm not a Canelo homer. Just telling it like it is.
That said, I like this fight. Beterbiev and Smith Jr. were already set to lock horns, so in order to be in the mix for an undisputed showdown at 175 you gotta have a belt and Bivol has the only other one. THAT'S the reason he chose to fight Bivol, username Mr. Giggles (comment #11 in this thread).Comment
