Well, these guys already had a large fanbase and more mainstream attention than Marquez.

These casual fans were already familiar with theses guys so there's hype to someone being challenged. Gatti was the draw against Mayweather which is why they fought in NJ and May trashed him creating the hype. People knew Hatton and DLH so when someone trashes them, people notice. Its the "Ohhhh no he didn't" factor.

Hatton was the one that trashed Floyd though, but it works both ways.

Maybe, but sometimes some fighters just respect each other with no mind games involved.

I have a theory on why the trash talk from Floyd has been kept to a minimum.

Here it is ........... Pac's growing appeal.

Bear with me while I break this down .....

Floyd while in limbo & semi-retirement, witnessed his P4P status and Top-Dog position in the sport evaporate quickly. And the one who stepped into the fill the void {Pac-Man] did it in a way that was totally opposite of how Floyd achieved it. Now this may not have been bad in and of itself, BUT! Pac-man along with gaining the status of P4P king and the position of overall Best, did it a way that is alien to how Floyd thought it had to be done.

Floyd is\was under the impression that to gain popularity, ticket buyers, PPV sales, you had to be brash, noisy, controversial constantly. And to a large degree it worked for Floyd, because his popularity grew exponentially because it included both the haters & the fans. ........ But, that newly adopted stadegy came with a hidden price-tag attached to it. And it was that when you're gone, by way of retirement etc.... You probally won't be missed.

Floyd watched Pac-man take over the crown with ease, without making any noise outside of the ring, without cursing at everyone, without disrespecting a single soul. Plus, he capatilized on two key matches that involved DLH and Hatton. These two former Floyd opponents were disposed of in an exciting fashion and all were in amasement. "This is how the P4P King should deal with opponents" Put them down!!!!!!!

This was and is a rude awakening for Floyd, because now he is widely disliked and Pac-Man is widely liked. Add on to that stinging reality - Pac-Man is being looked at by many as more exciting than Floyd, more devastating in the ring than Floyd and in essence .... A better P4P king than Floyd was - because he is clocking his opponents and putting them down.

Now the out-of-retirement Floyd has a serious dilema. How does he reclaim that Top-Dog position from someone who is generally well liked. He cannot return with all that loud noise and brashness, because he runs the risk of falling further behind in popularity with the Pac-Man, who is making movies, doing commercials and running around 24/7 with a huge smile on his face.

How can the Floyd of old compete with the new P4P king when he is like this and Pac-Man is like this.

            He Can't!!!!!

So the new Floyd has no other choice but to be more exciting in the ring and adopt a more laid-back persona. In the hope that this new approach will help him gain some of the accolades, the praise, the notariety that Pac-Man is enjoying in abundance.
