  • Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis Urges Fury To Continue, Become Undisputed Against Usyk-Joshua Winner

Tyson Fury would be leaving a lot of the table if he truly decides to walk away from boxing and a chance at becoming an undisputed champion, according to his illustrious countryman and heavyweight forebear Lennox Lewis.

Lennox is right, Firy should continue. He’s a star, he made his bones in the usa in epic fights with wilder and now is the biggest draw in the U.K…..smashing all the propaganda that he isn’t a draw blah blah blah. He and wilder broke the record gate for a heavyweight title fight and now sold 94k tickets at Wembley. He is the biggest star in British boxing and the recognised best heavyweight on the planet. He has a king sized chance to really forward heavyweight boxing around the world with his action Kronk style and biggest personality in the sport. Without him the division is largely uninteresting to all but the die hards

It's amazing how getting older has changed Lewis' attitude.

While he was fighting he seemed to look down on everyone from a supposed superiority, despite losing twice to lower caliber opponents. It took him a victory over the walking corpse of Mike Tyson to be able to "cement", as he himself says, his legacy.

Now instead he seems to have become a majorette for Fury.

I don't think Usyk or Joshua stand much of a chance against Fury, but they sure as heck would perform better than Dillian Whyte did.

Lewis was looked down upon his entire career by the American boxing industry while they praised Tyson, Holyfield and Bowe to the moon.

The impression of Lewis was as a soft, glass chinned brit who couldn't really fight.

He had to scratch and Claw for every bit of reluctant praise, while they showered the aforementioned with constant praise and minimised their failings.

It was only after Lewis retired and Wladamir took over as the resident yank destroyer that they started to see Lewis as "not too bad"

So yeah, Lewis had a fair reason to act alloof.

            Thanks, excellent points overall.

How do you see his championing of Fury? Patriotism, or...?

Not too sure, it's surprising to me because they had beef in the past.

I couldn't put it down to patriotism as Lewis has been scathing of Joshua for years

I think Joshua recognizes fury as a natural talent similar to himself, stylistically they are not the same but in terms of attitude I think Lewis sees some of himself in fury.

Yes, claim you are retired, comeback and beat usyk\joshua winner, coming out of retiremen t to beat the best looks better in resume.
You've got a lot of time to study opposition now from armchair so have got great chance to beat them.

yeah, be like Lennox. just tap undisputed for a second, then you can drop the belts and never stfu about having been undisputed like as if you weren't a ****ty undisputed.

In terms of undisputed champions' performances as undisputed champion Lennox has to rate with the lowest. You can brag resume and skillset all day long on the dude but what he did as undisputed was fuck and all. So, I think it's quite rich at this stage in his life he never shuts the **** up about it. Like it was this great big deal to him.
