Comments Thread For: Valdez: Working Alongside Canelo Is Amazing, A Lot He Knows That Can Benefit Me In A Fight

By Jake Donovan - The last trip to Las Vegas for Oscar Valdez for a major title fight came one week prior to stablemate and pound-for-pound superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in a fight of his own. It produced a career-best result for Valdez, who tore through long-reigning WBC junior lightweight titlist Miguel Berchelt last February 20 at MGM Grand Conference Center. Valdez envisions a similarly career-defining result heading into this weekend's title unification bout with WBO 130-pound claimant Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9KOs).

I get the feeling that Stevenson will dominate Valdez and put on a masterclass performance. Stevenson is so talented and will only keep getting better.

I'm rooting for Valdez in this one, but I suspect Stevenson might be too skillful. Not that Valdez will be dominated, though. Another negative going against me in this one is that I don't like Stevenson's personality. And it seems when I dislike a fighter personally - which is not often - they typically win (Adrien Broner and Teo Lopez being joyous exceptions).

I'm sure Canelo knows A LOT about how to get ready for a fight...

Lmao there's nothing carnelo can say or do to prepare pedez for Stevenson. Carnelo specifically avoids fighters like stevenson.

If Valdez can make it even remotely competitive then I will believe in Reynoso as a trainer.

The problem for Valdez is that Shakur is much bigger than him. Valdez has to apply pressure on a man bigger than him. Tough task.
