    Whyte could beat Liston

Maybe Liston's daughter (if he had one) ?

It's really quite simple: Fury beat Klitschko and became heavyweight champion, then he retired. Any titles he had at that moment became vacant (including the silly lineal title he erroneously claims is still his). In his stead Joshua came through and established himself as the heavyweight champion. Lost his title(s) to Ruiz and won them back. Lost them to Usyk and now Usyk is the heavyweight champion. It's not that complicated.

Fury has done a very good job of convincing everyone he is the heavyweight champion of the world by simply beating Wilder two (three) times, but Wilder was only ever a belt holder. Joshua was the champion and now, Usyk is. Everyone apart from Fury nuthuggers acknowledge this.

Is Fury currently the best heavyweight in the world? Possibly, yes, but the only way to prove it is by beating the Usyk/Joshua winner.

Joshua was only ever a belt holder. Who did he win his titles off? Martin? Parker? All average boxers who won vacant belts, not a real champion between them.

Like it or not, Wilder was a 5 year WBC champion, tied for title defenses with Ali, he was legit and Fury dethroned him, just like how he dethroned Wlad, a man who had barely lost a round in 12 years.

Nobody including Usyk can call themselves a real HW champion until they get past Tyson Fury.
